One of the loveliest things about animals is how unpredictable they can be. Just when we think we’ve got them all figured out, they go and surprise us with some unexpected behavior or amusing antics, and the ways in which some animals can behave really makes us stop and wonder what’s going on inside their minds.
Can animals enjoy music? Well, many people would say no, but there have been plenty of stories about birds, dogs, cows, and even elephants responding positively to music, and now we can add squirrels to the list!
Young violin star Karolina Protsenko was playing her violin outdoors when a curious little squirrel came hopping over to see what was going on.
Squirrels are normally quite cautious creatures, always nervous about approaching humans and very quick to run away at the slightest sign of danger, but this curious little fluffball seemed totally amazed by Karolina’s music as she played ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen.
The squirrel might be the first of his species to appreciate Karolina’s talents, but she’s already very well-knowin in the human world! The 11-year-old has got over 400,000 followers on Instagram and more than two million YouTube subscribers too.
Born in Ukraine, Karolina moved to the US with her family in 2014 when she was just 6 years old, and it was then that she started to take violin lessons. A true prodigy, she’s already released several albums of cover songs, appeared on multiple TV shows, and drawn praise from leading violinists and music experts from around the world.
Now, it looks like can add ‘squirrel charmer’ to her extensive resume! She plays so harmoniously, the little squirrel just can’t keep away.
At one moment, the critter does seem like it’s about to hop away into the grass, but Karolina’s playing draws it back all over again.
As the squirrel comes back for a second look at her, Karolina kneels down low, and the squirrel, completely captivated by her music, doesn’t run away. It gets right up close to her, watching her talented hands making such beautiful sounds.
Fortunately, the whole wonderful scene was captured on camera and uploaded to Karolina’s popular YouTube account. It’s already been seen by over 1.5 million people!
Some of the top comments on the video so far say:

Many commenters also compared Karolina to a Disney princess due to her almost magical ability to draw in woodland animals with her musical talents! We’ll have to keep a close eye on her YouTube channel to see if she attracts any other non-human fans or followers in the months to come. Clearly, this young girl is destined for very big things.
