Two missing girls were recently found safe after an Amber Alert was sent out over three months ago.
Dinah Coltharp, 8, and Hattie Coltharp, 4, were kidnapped in September with their two brothers William and Seth, ages 6 and 7. The two brothers were found prior to the girls. It’s a miracle that all four children are unharmed. So, what exactly unfolded?
The children were kidnapped by their “doomsday prepper” father, John Coltharp. They were then taken to a compound, believed to be a cult, created by Coltharp called Knights of the Crystal Blade. It was located in Lund, Utah which was 175 miles away from their home city.
The children’s mother, Micha Soble, had sole custody and she had also filed for divorce. It was a heartbreaking three months for her, but she finally has relief.
As it turns out, Coltharp had been arrested a few days before on suspicion of kidnapping and obstruction of justice. However, the deranged man refused to tell the authorities where the children were. Micha and the police refused to give up hope and stayed positive and hopeful that the kids were okay.
Acting on a tip, the Iron County Sheriff’s Office raided Coltharp’s compound and found the two young sons. It was at this moment that Coltharp’s partner told them where to locate the daughters.
About 5 miles away, the malnourished young girls were found hiding in water barrels. They had been hiding there for over 24 hours per their biological father’s instruction.
Dinah and Hattie weren’t dressed for the freezing temperatures, and they had no access to food and water. The police had found them just in time. All of the children were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and to be reunited with their mom.
Coltharp’s own sister was disgusted and saddened by what her brother had done. She wrote on Facebook, “I hope my brother [goes to] jail, which pains me so much to say because he is my little brother, and I love him. But his choices have destroyed so many lives.”
Thankfully, after a long and painstaking three months, Micha has been safely reunited with all of her children.
