What could be more unexpected than a toddler needing a 100-pound pit bull named “Fury” in her crib every night in order to sleep?

But that’s precisely what little Adalynn (Ady) Leary needs after experiencing a traumatic event.

The Leary family lives in Alaska and experienced an earthquake in November 2018 that measured a 7.0 on the Richter scale.

Everyone was safe, thankfully, but the event caused a great amount of anxiety for little Ady, who had trouble sleeping after the event. She was afraid to close her eyes and night and needed her “best friend and bodyguard” nearby in order to get any rest.

Kyle Leary posted a video from his daughter’s crib cam to Facebook last month showing Ady and Fury snuggling up. The video hasnow been viewed a whopping 43 MILLION times with over 770,000 shares! He said of the clip:

“Cutest video EVER. Just A girl tucking in her 100lbs Pitbull best friend and bodyguard for life. If you raise them with love, they only show love.”

Leary is no doubt referring to the reputation of pit bulls as aggressive animals, but he makes the point that nurture is the key to raising a gentle and friendly canine.

Of course, there has been some of backlash, but many of those who viewed the video (even those who were skeptical of letting a toddler sleep with a pit bull) found it heartwarming, even if they would be hesitant to let their child do the same. Nevertheless, most commenters seemed to draw connections between Ady and Fury and their own children and pets.

After receiving hundreds of comments, Kyle Leary shared the backstory along with another photo:

“This is Adalynn Leary tucking in Fury Leary, her best friend and bodyguard since birth who is a 100+pound blue nose pitbull. We live in Palmer, Alaska and recently got hit hard by a 7.0 earthquake and we’ve had over 5,000 aftershocks. Since then Ady has been having severe anxiety and trouble sleeping. The only way she’ll sleep is if Fury is in there with her to protect and ease her anxiety. Normally he sleeps on the floor next to her bed but that night she called him up to cuddle him.”

In response, some commenters shared the anxiety their families and pets experienced after the earthquake as well.

One only need watch the video (which you can find below) to see that Ady is in no danger from Fury, who lets the little girls crawl over him, tuck him in, and continuously move a blanket around, all with immense patience.

Of course, every family needs to make their own decision on how to let their children interact with pets and much of it will depend on the animal’s history and upbringing as well as the child’s behavior and self-control.

But little Ady appears to be in good hands. Fury is obviously a loving and patient “bodyguard” who might take up quite a bit of space, but is otherwise pretty great at sharing a child’s bed!
