Dogs are more than just pets. For most people, they are members of the family. That’s why they work hard to make sure that their pets are able to live a healthy and safe life. Unfortunately, not all dogs are lucky to find humans who think that way about them.

A German Shepherd has been abandoned in Forth Worth, Texas.

After receiving this report, Judy Obregon rushed to the area to help the poor dog. However, after arriving at Echo Lake Park, she realized that the rescue mission won’t be that easy.

The dog was difficult to catch.

Each time she tried to get close, the dog would run away. She was probably too scared that Judy would hurt her.

She shared:

“At first, once she sawmy truck, she’d run. Every morning before sunlight I’d go to feed her – when she began waiting, I knew we were close.”

Judy was determined to help the poor German Shepherd.

The process required a lot of patience and kindness. It took many days before Judy was able to earn the dog’s trust.

She said:

“I said the same thing to her every day for her to know my voice and trust that one day her life would change. It’s all so rewarding when we can change the fear they have into a smile.”

Judy was rewarded.

One day, as they were interacting, the German Shepherd headed to the woods. Realizing that the dog wanted to show her something, Judy got curious.

To her surprise, she saw another dog.

The German Shepherd had been offered some food in the last couple of days. Clearly, he’d been sharing it with another dog.

It was a Pit Bull!

With scars on her face, it’s clear that this dog had a tough life, too. And like the German Shepherd, she was quite shy as well.

Judy doesn’t know what happened to the dogs and how they ended up in the area. The place is a notorious dog dumping ground so she could only speculate.

By bringing out her friend, the GSD made a point.

Judy said:

“She made it a point: If you take me, you take my friend, too!”

As the founder of The Abandoned Ones (TAO), she completely understood the dog. She took them in and made sure they were completely safe and healthy.

Judy named the Pit Bull Clover and the German Shepherd Iris. Fortunately, despite their appearances, the dogs were healthy. They got the all-clear from the vet.

After spending some time getting used to being around humans and their care, they were further assessed for rehoming.

The team spent a lot of time assessing and preparing the dogs. After the process, they realized that they could actually send the dogs to different foster homes without harming their psychological and emotional well-being.

Clover needs a home with lots of excitement. Iris, on the other hand, needs a place that’s calm and relaxing.

Despite having different traits, their foster family found them to be really good with kids and other animals. Their experience in the woods probably contributed to their ability to blend well with others. TAO and their foster families are hoping that these two adorable dogs could enjoy happy and safe lives with their forever families.
