These two are inseparable.

Humans aren’t the only creatures capable of forming inseparable bonds. Chihuahua Jefe and German Shepherd Jericho may not look alike and nor do they seem like likely friends, but looks can be deceiving. The two, who were recently adopted out by the Arizona Humane Society, were inseparable, making them a bit more difficult to adopt out than your average pooches. However, they had each other, and that is all either seemed to need.

When the odd couple was found, Jericho was malnourished with fleas and ticks taking up residence all up and down his spine. The poor shepherd also suffered from Valley Fever. Jefe, his loyal companion, provided comfort in the best way he knew how: by lying on top of his back and keeping him warm.

The pair were seperated briefly when they were first picked up, and when Jericho was loaded into the ambulance and whisked away from the animal hospital. Jefe went into a panic, essentially telling rescuers that the dog they just took was his best friend, and that he best be reunited with him. And he was, at the AHS.

That brief separation, during which neither dog did too well, was all the shelter needed to know that the pups needed to be re-homed together. Once they were reunited at the shelter’s trauma hospital, Jefe refused to leave Jericho’s side again. He remained a steadfast companion while the shepherd recovered, and the two have been together since.

The shelter advertised the dogs as a pair. While most people were touched by Jericho and Jefe’s story, not too many people were able to take on an adult German shepherd and Chihuahua at once. For this reason, the shelter had such a hard time adopting them out that they eventually waived their adoption fee.

About two months ago, the pair was finally adopted into their furever home. According to the Arizona Humane Society: “Jefe and Jericho have found a wonderful home together! Thank you to all who shared their stories, sent warm wishes, and offered to open their home to these two. We are so happy to see this pair heading home!”
