Bella Burton was diagnosed with Morquio Syndrome, which leads to abnormal bone development and dwarfism when she was 2-years-old. The disease had a crippling effect and left Bella unable to walk without the use of crutches.
She had to rely on her crutches or a wheelchair for mobility until she got a service dog named George.
“He’s my best friend,” Bella told BARK.
They knew from the moment they met that they would change each other’s lives.
“I could tell he needed me and I needed him,” said Bella.
Bella found George after volunteering with the non-profit Service Dog Project for more than a year. Because of George, Bella is able to walk without her crutches or a wheelchair.
“He’s the one that made me more independent than I ever could be,” Bella said.
Bella began learning to walk again by leaning on George, but now she can walk on her own.
“We never thought she would be off crutches,” Bella’s mom Rachel told PEOPLE. “And now she will go in the yard and play, even without George. To see how much stronger she’s gotten in awesome.”
Bella can now even ride a bike. Because of all that George has done for Bella, BarkPost wanted to celebrate his accomplishments and give him the “Best Day Ever.”
A day that is made up of a dog’s wildest dreams. For example, since George is on-duty most days he has to eat a healthy dog diet.
People food is off limits for George. However, on George’s “Best Day Ever,” he was treated to a plate of burgers from Walburgers.
Since sledding and playing in the snow is one of George and Bella’s favorite things to do, they were treated to a day at the Blue Hills Ski area.
They even got the entire ski area all to themselves to go sledding.
“If there’s snow out there, he’s in his glory,” said Rachel of George.
After that, they stopped by the Polka Dog Dog Bakery, which is basically a candy store for dogs.
George got to pick out whatever treats he wanted to chow down on, including a “Dino Bone,” a gigantic sized bone for George to chew on. George and Bella were also treated to an enormous hotel suite that was filled with as many toys as George could play with.
There were dog toys everywhere you looked! His favorites were the rocket ship toys and a leopard print ball with legs.
He even got a new collar, leash, and large George-sized bed of his own so he doesn’t have to take up all the space in Bella’s Bed.
Inside the room was a $1,000 donation to the Service Dog Project in George and Bella’s name to be given to the organization so that other kids like Bella can get dogs like George. It was definitely fit for a king dog.
We think George definitely deserved to have a Best Day Day Ever.
