The thought of a pet getting out of the house can lead to nightmares for most pet owners. But itโ€™s not always doom and gloom when pets slip out of the house, since some pets manage to find their way home. And if your pets are anything like this smart golden retriever pup, then that homecoming can lead to a very funny video.

They didnโ€™t know how he got outโ€ฆ

Greg Basel, from Spokane Washington, is the proud owner of Marshall, a handsome golden retriever. At only 3 months old, this dog is clearly the pride and joy of the family. But one day, Marshall gets out of the house and ends up wandering around the neighborhood while Greg wasnโ€™t at home.

Greg doesnโ€™t know how Marshall got out of the house, but he knew that losing Marshall was going to be the worst thing to ever happen. After all, no pet lover wants to imagine their dog getting hurt or lost. But thankfully, that didnโ€™t happen to Marshall.

Marshall couldnโ€™t keep away from the home he came to love soโ€ฆ

At some point after his escape, the puppy decided to rethink their decision to get away from home. Now you might imagine the dog would just slip back into the house the way they came, but this dog decided he would be polite. So he walks up to the front door and presses the doorbell.

How did Greg find out about this? As it turns out, Greg captured the whole scene on camera with a Nest security system. The system comes with a front door camera that pings Gregโ€™s phone whenever someone rings the doorbell.

This patient pup was very calm while heโ€ฆ

Imagine Gregโ€™s surprise when he found his young puppy on the camera. His fuzzy face staring into the camera, almost as if greeting his owner. Marshall stays in frame for only a few seconds, long enough to let Greg know whatโ€™s going on. Then he hops back down and sits on the front porch to wait.

Greg later told friends and local news that he was able to get back home in time to let Marshall back in the house. That sounds like a nice little end to this funny story, but it doesnโ€™t stop there.

Once the video went live, the Internet went dog-crazy

Greg found his puppyโ€™s behavior very funny, especially since Marshall seems to pick up on human habits really fast. So he shared the video online. Well, viewers that saw the video found a close connection to Marshallโ€™s situation and shared their own stories of lost pups doing funny things.

Local Spokane news station KHQ picked up the story and shared the video on their Facebook page. This led to over 1,000 shares ever since it was posted. Not bad for a 3-month-old pup.

But what really matters to Greg is that his golden retriever puppy was able to get back home safe and sound and weโ€™re sure heโ€™ll be more careful to keep his puppy safely indoors.
