As humans, we cannot help but to develop strong bonds and connections with one another and the animals we coexist with.
Not only have we developed strong connections with our cats and dogs but snakes, rabbits, birds, chinchillas, hamsters, iguanas, and even foxes.
The list of animals we’ve become a friend to is endless and we are continuing to develop deeper connections with more exotic animals.
However, the balance of how we treat exotic animals is unequal. Many exotic animals are used for their fur, tusks, skin and various other material items.
Which means the treatment and production of those material items many times means mistreatment of animals.
To combat this mistreatment many sanctuaries and rescues have developed to protect our dogs, cats and especially our exotic friends.
In Minnesota, five women have decided to help some of our exotic fox friends by opening a sanctuary called Save A Fox Rescue which is a nonprofit captive-born fox rescue which also means that none of the foxes who reside there could be released back into the wild in their lifetime.
At Save A Fox, they rescue foxes from various situations from being sick, injured or even orphaned foxes from fur farms.
Many of the babies that are rescued have been rejected by their mother and need to be bottle-fed to live.
At the sanctuary, it is easier to spot common illnesses that could be detrimental to the foxes such as respiratory infections and coccidia.
This sanctuary is especially important for those foxes who come in need because otherwise, they might not make it.
Meet one of their special rescues name Finnegan. He has a special way of showing his mom just how much he misses her and wants her to come outside to play with him.
To start he gets his mom’s attention by popping his head up at the window this way she knows he is saying hello and is asking her to come outside and play.
Once she sees she goes to the door to go outside and Finnegan is right there waiting for her.
He immediately starts to giggle with excitement as she bends down to give him all the love and attention he was asking for.
Smiling from cheek to cheek basking in his time with his mom.
He keeps giggling as she pets his head and she can understand that begins to ask her at one point to go inside with her.
To which she reminds him why he is outside,
“I’d let you inside but you’d just pee everywhere…yeah…the first thing you’d do is you would go on my bed and you’d pee on my pillows!”
Finnegan continues to giggle and you see his is not alone out there but with another rescue named Dixie. His mom continues to give him lots of love and attention grooming him by picking the icicles off the fur on his chest.
Which his mate would be doing if he were in the wild.
Finnegan can sense his mom is getting ready to go inside and gently rests his paw on his mom’s arm.
In response, she reminds him that she loves him so much but she’s getting cold and its time for her to go inside.
When finally does, follows closely behind her and scratches at the door once she’s in. She walks back past the window and he pops up again checking in on her and saying hello once more.
Although these foxes are extremely adorable it is not a simple task to care for these cute giggly foxes.
Adult foxes need to stay on a grain-free diet, as well as, consume raw meat and their favorite fruits and vegetables morning and night. As well as, each day they need lots of time to play.
