When Sarah Clemons agreed to foster a Staffordshire bull terrier named Tequila, she just assumed that she was a new mother based of her large “milk bags”, but Sarah was in for so much more than that.

“You better not be pregnant, let alone be about to have puppies, OK?.”

Fostering a dog is much different than owning a dog. A lot of times when shelters are full or animals with certain personalities need to be around other animals, they send them to foster homes, where the pet lives until someone comes along to adopt them. That’s what Sarah was doing, taking in Tequila for a short time until she could find a forever home.

Tequila had been abandoned by her former family and Sarah had taken her into her home until she could find a forever home of her own. Then one day, Tequila started acting funny, pacing, panting, and not acting like her normal self. Not knowing what to do, Sarah took her dog to the vet, finally admitting that she had been “ignorant to the whole pregnancy thing” when she realized that Tequila was having puppies that night.

By the way, no one had told Sarah that Tequila was pregnant when she agreed to foster.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. There have been other stories and reports of people taking in shelter dogs that were pregnant and the new owners had no idea. She did the right thing in making an emergency trip to the vet, they handled everything much better than Sarah could have on her own. Tequila ended up delivering 3 healthy puppies that night.

Sarah documented the whole fiasco on snapchat. She started by showing off her clearly uncomfortable pup trying to get settled in her new home followed by confirmation that Tequila was going into labor. “You guys are about to be an aunt and uncle!” she says to her other pups as she tries to kennel them up so she can take care of Tequila.

Then her and her and her boyfriend are in the car making their way to the vet, at night, in hopes that all the puppies will be delivered safely. The next post says the vet expected Tequila to have 9 puppies total, but lucky for them he was a little off. Sarah then posted several photos of Tequila looking very happy and very proud of her 3 little babies. According to Sarah all three puppies, and Tequila have been adopted and have found their forever homes.
