Unexpected visitors are the worst. Some people won’t announce their intentions or arrivals, leading to… complications.

A mother and her children watch in awe out their back window as a family of bears makes its way onto the property.

Although not exactly The Three Bears, Momma Bear and her four cubs enjoy some play time at the homeowner’s expense.

There’s definitely a lot going on here.

Momma Bear’s relaxing in the pool. One of her cubs starts playing on the slide like any other child. Two cubs play-wrestle in the background and proceed to unroll an exercise mat, all the while sporting guilty, cheeky expressions.

The homeowner’s daughter lets out a quivering, “I’m so scared” as the bears play with her toys.

“Mommy the police man is coming. I wish they were in someone else’s backyard.”

Human Mom ensues that everything’s okay, explaining, “Don’t be scared, they’re having the time of their life. Don’t worry, they’ll be in someone else’s backyard tomorrow.”

The background bears continue to tussle.

Momma Bear starts pulling and chewing on a telescopic pole. The nearest cub begins to escape the pool walls.

Human Daughter interjects, “Oh no, my floatie!”

The background duo abandons the exercise mat. One of the bears stands upright, meeting the other atop the slide. Another cub continues to rummage around the yard’s outskirts.

The bears seem to understand the yard’s human amenities. The cubs truly resemble regular children on the playground.

Human Mom and her daughter discuss the ongoing situation:

Daughter: “When does the policeman come?”

Mom: “I don’t know, love. The momma bear is telling them to go already. Don’t worry about it. They’re going to someone else’s backyard. They’re gonna follow Momma.”

But her optimism quickly fades.

She continues by stating, “… or they’ll just come back,” before letting out a light chuckle. Momma Bear returns to her pool.

But this time, she doesn’t take a dip. She proceeds to reveal a hidden talent.

Two things stand out: First, the pool – which appears to be made of PVC pipe – is tough as nails. Momma Bear must weigh at least a few hundred pounds.

Secondly, bears apparently have absolutely impeccable balance? Momma tightropes the pool’s thin railing like a natural. Not a single wobble. She could easily become a trapeze artist.

Momma wraps up her performance and proceeds to contemplate her existence against the wall of the pool.

I imagine her thinking, “Wow, this heat is ridiculous. It’s pretty… unbearable.”

She bathes for a few more glorious moments before signaling the end of play time. It’s time to leave.

Momma Bear and her cubs quickly abandon the property, heading for the back fence. Some of her children continue to dilly-dally in the yard, yielding Momma’s more commanding side. Hopefully her children don’t find her overbearing.

A straggler continues to rip into the exercise mat before darting off into the foliage.

Black bears make excellent climbers, vastly superior to brown bears and especially grizzly bears. I wonder how they fair against a common metal fence?

The bears can be seen in the background, black blotches amidst the trees.

Daughter chimes in again, “Maybe they’re scared of the police.” Maybe, just maybe.

The cubs proceed to clear the fence with ease. And just like that, they’re gone.

Pleased, Human Mom responds, “Oh they’re all gone. They’re going after Momma.”

Watching a family of bears rummage through your backyard’s unusual. Watching them use your toys and take a dip in the pool’s barely believable.

The short home video definitely sheds light on bear personalities and habits. Their actions coincidentally resemble a classic suburban family using their backyard. Despite what I’d imagine is little to no interaction with playgrounds and pools, they seem to enjoy them. And honestly, the cubs are kind of cute.
