Believe it or not, there are hundreds of abandoned and neglected animals across the United States. Did you know that the FBI added cruelty to animals as a category in the Uniform Crime Report in 2016?

However, dogfighting, cockfighting, and other forms of organized animal cruelty are still present, and poor animals suffer terribly.

Here is a beautiful story of a 9-year-old dog who, in a way, saved herself from who knows what kind of torture.

Badly wounded, malnourished, visibly scared, and limping; the poor doggie entered a strangers’ home in Philadelphia at 3 AM. Little did the pup know that her life would become phenomenal because she was about to meet two dog lovers.

The story is shared on Rocky Kanaka’s YouTube page, and more than 220k people have bawled their eyes out watching the dog’s incredible recovery.

In December 2019, Jack Jokinen and his wife woke up to find a dog hiding on the first floor of their family home in Philadelphia.

As the Jokinens later revealed for local news, the pup was terrified. It seemed that the dog came out of nowhere because all doors were locked. After looking at everything that the CCTTV recorded the previous night, Jack understood that he must have accidentally left the front door open when he returned from a walk.

The family already owns a dog George, and Jack takes him out every evening. The previous night was stormy, and the wind must have opened the door. The dog, which they later named Suzy, found her way inside. It all points to how destined it was for Suzy to stay there.

One of Jokinen’s neighbors passed by; he saw that the door was opened and closed it. Steven Griendling, Jack’s neighbor, didn’t know that the dog had walked in. He simply wanted to keep the family safe.

First, Jack and his wife called the animal control, but the only option was to drop the dog off if she wasn’t micro-chipped. After that, Suzy would enter the system to wait to be adopted.

It was clear that Suzy had a rough past. She was severely malnourished, and one of her legs was wounded. She was also covered in fleas and ticks, and all of her paw pads were infected.

The poor dog was walking on three legs at the time, and she also had a lot of damage to her mouth. Jack knew that whoever did that to such a precious animal didn’t deserve her. Mr. and Mrs. Jockinen had a short conversation, and they agreed to adopt Suzy.

“In the beginning, the adjustment wasn’t easy. Suzy had major anxiety all the time, and she was afraid of everything,” explains Jack.

Understandably, Suzy was afraid and nervous, but Jockinens gradually helped her recover.

Rocky Kanaka, an animal activist and YouTuber with more than 2 million YouTube subscribers, found out about Suzy and shared her story. Suzy’s faithful decision to walk into the life of the Jokinen family quickly went viral. Jack opened up his Venmo account where people could donate money and help the family pay Suzy’s medical bills.

People donated around $40,000, and Jack spent about $7,000 so far. The Jokinens will use the rest of the money to help other dogs as well.

As soon as Suzy felt better, Jack decided to begin with the project of 100 homes for 100 dogs, in order to help find homes for 100 homeless animals. The action turned out to be a huge success, and dozens of strays were saved.

Suzy is feeling a lot better, she gained some weight, and her new family loves her very much.

Watch the video and see how the dog walked into her salvation. Go, Suzy, we are incredibly happy for you!
