“She just soaks in everything around her now,” says the owner of the baby cow Harveigh as she’s walking through their home. “Her odds were against her from the beginning,” she continued.
Harveigh was actually named after Hurricane Harvey. After this storm took place, the baby cow was discovered in a flooding field. So they took her in and tried to get her warm. Apparently, even her mouth was ice cold.
Thankfully, thanks to this wonderful family, he was rescued.
But Harveigh was very sick.
Initially, the baby cow was not doing so well. After she was found, she fought very hard to get better. While it wasn’t easy, she finally did, and now she has grown up to be happy and healthy.
And then there was Sealy.
Harveigh’s mother then discovered Sealy, a very special pitbull who, like the cow, was abandoned and did not have a mother. So the woman decided to welcome Sealy into her home as well. “It just made sense to let Sealy in the laundry room,” she said.
“She immediately went over there and started licking her face, kind of like her mom would do. Her little eyes opened. She just really stayed by her side,” she said.
“Sealy made Harveigh feel safe, so I let all seven dogs in,” the woman said with a laugh.
When they first found Harveigh, they didn’t think she was going to make it at all. But now, here she was, socializing with seven dogs at once. The dogs were so kind, too — they all took turns kissing her, smelling her, and ultimately showing her a lot of love.
A few days later, the veterinarian suggested that the family lets the cow live in their home for a little bit since she essentially had no immune system. So the woman said okay and she had Harveigh live at home. She lived there along with the seven other dogs and they got milk for her as well.
Sealy was one of the special dogs though. She and Harveigh come from similar backgrounds. When Sealy was born, she was left in an abandoned box of puppies on the hot concrete. She had burn marks on her and there was a strong concern that she wouldn’t live.
Because Sealy fought so hard to survive at the beginning, that fighting spirit has stuck with her. She has no fears and loves life completely. And now, she was passing it on to Harveigh.
As Harveigh continued to live there, Sealy was really helping her personality come out. Harveigh was acting like one of the dogs, but she was also super silly, playful, and sassy. Sealy put up with all of it and had nothing but patience.
The relationship started out as a mother-daughter type of thing but as Harveigh grew bigger, it turned more into a friendship type of thing. Now, Harveigh spends most of her time outside but Sealy still comes out there to jump around, play, and drink milk.
“Letting her go is going to be a little tough but if she is happy, then I’m happy,” she says of when Harveigh finally has to go to the pasture.
Harveigh and Sealy’s relationship will always be a special one!
