Elephants are gentle and intelligent creatures who mean no harm to humans. Unfortunately, though, these gentle giants are often a victim of poaching. For centuries, elephants have been hunted for their tusks. Rangers are tasked with protecting elephants, but sadly, they can’t stop all the poachers who mean these creatures harm.
Sometimes, elephants are able to escape from poachers on their own. And sometimes they’re even able to find the help they need. That’s just what happened with one elephant who had a bullet wound on his head.
It was nothing short of miracle that one elephant was able survive a gunshot wound in the head and went on to find doctors on his own.

The elephant suffered from a gunshot in the head as a result of poaching for the illegal ivory trade.
The elephant bravely walked up to the doctors to get help even though he was suffering from a head injury caused by an old bullet lodged inside his head. The elephant was lucky to survive such an attack, and he was even luckier to find doctors who immediately rushed to give him treatment.
Pretty Boy, as the elephant was called, seemed to trust the doctors because he did not make any sign of resistance when they came near him.

To help Pretty Boy relax during treatment, the doctors had to tranquilize him. An X-ray was also performed to find the location of the bullet that caused the wound in the elephant’s head.
They soon discovered that the bullet that had entered his head was a few inches too high to be fatal. Pretty Boy was very lucky indeed.
The doctors then performed surgery to remove the bullet. Thankfully, Pretty Boy was asleep while they operated on him. And, when Pretty Boy woke up he was already all stitched up.

It did not take too long for Pretty Boy to feel sleepy again, though. The doctors watched him move to lean against a tree trunk and get more sleep.
Pretty Boy had stood twice as tall as the vehicle that carried the doctors operated on him. But, even though Pretty Boy was a very large animal, he had been in so much pain because of his awful experience. Thank goodness Pretty Boy was able to find doctors that saved his life.

A video of Pretty Boy was shared on YouTube by Inside Edition, and it quickly went viral, garnering over 17 million views.
In the description of the video, Inside Edition shared more about Pretty Boy and his story:
“This elephant was is so much pain; he walked right up to doctors to ask for first aid. Named Pretty Boy, this targeted elephant was shot in the head. The elephant was then tranquilized and given an x ray which showed a deformed bullet in his skull. Vets believe Pretty Boy was hit centimeters too high for what’s called a ‘kill shot’ by a hunter. The elephant had surgery where doctors removed the bullet.”
