Swimming or hanging around with dolphins is an experience that is probably located at the top of many bucket lists, and if you take a look at the following footage of these beautiful animals, it’s not hard to understand why.
Damian Christie and a film crew were on a boating trip in the New Zealand waters in Marlborough Sounds. When the crew started filming, around twenty bottlenose dolphins decided to join the party and have some fun by swimming, jumping and playing around directly behind their boat. The footage was captured rather incidentally, as the film crew was traveling back from filming a shoot in the vicinity of the area, Pelorus Sound.
The video of these joyful and overly happy dolphins was captured on March 10th, 2017. Damian describes the experience he’s had as simply “magical”.
One of the providers of boat trips and dolphin experiences in Marlborough Sounds gives people plenty of good reasons to experience the joy these animals bring to themselves.
“On our Picton Dolphin cruises we regularly get reactions such as screaming, speechlessness, uncontrollable laughing and even tears…..it’s quite something to see. (Just imagine what the Dolphins think of all this fuss). Dolphins are one of the few truly “wild” animals that choose to play and interact with humans…totally entrusting and friendly,” they wrote on Newzealand.com.
The Dolphin experience is not just for tourists and backpackers; it’s something every Kiwi should take the time to include in their top 10 things to do in life. We regularly get people telling us this is one of the best things they have experienced or “We wish we’d done this years ago.”
“For people it is about getting out of our urban jungles and back to nature, something strong in man’s past and missing from our frantic and busy lives.”
In short, a trip to the Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand is definitely worthwhile if you can appreciate the stunning marine blue views, the crystal clear waters, and beautiful landscapes – but the most important one of all is without a single doubt the marine wildlife.
Even though Damian and the film crew captured the footage whilst on a boat, in conditions allow, you can actually go swimming with these dolphins in the Marlborough Sounds area as well. It gives people an amazing opportunity to interact with these fantastic animals in their natural habitat.
What an amazing video!
