How To Turn Balloons and Doilies Into Beautiful Lanterns

We all love lace doilies, but did you know that you can use your lace doilies in a DIY project that will create something beautiful to decorate any room? Follow the steps below and we guarantee you won’t regret it!

Here are the materials you’re going to need:

  • Doilies
  • Balloon
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Elmer’s glue
  • Water
  • Flour
  • Light kit

You probably want these tools as well:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Paint brush
  • Mixing spoon
  • Measuring spoon
  • Straight pin
  • Scissors

Step 1: Blow up the balloon to its full size.

Step 2: Cover the balloon with petroleum jelly.

Step 3: Add one bottle of Elmer’s glue to a mixing bowl.

Step 4: Add one tablespoon of flour to the bowl.

Step 5: Add two spoons of water.

Step 6: Mix, mix, and mix!

Step 7: Place the doilies on the balloon.

Step 8: Use a brush to paint glue on top of the doilies to hold them in place.

Step 9: Use more doilies to cover the rest of the balloon. Make sure there’s no space between the doilies.

Step 10: When the glue is dried, use a straight pin and pop the balloon.

Step 11: Carefully remove the balloon from the lantern.

Step 12: Add a lightbulb to the bottom of the lantern.

Congratulations, you now have a beautiful lantern to hang in your room.
