Some kids were hanging out in an area near a tar pit when they heard incessant and desperate barking coming from a group of dogs.
Curious, they went over to see what the problem was, and followed the dogs to find a tragic scene.
Another dog had somehow been completely covered in tar. Her condition left her unable to move – every part of her body had been completely petrified by the tar. It was traumatic, and volunteers said they had never seen anything like it.
The kids went running to report what they found to some other locals in the neighbourhood, who immediately went to Facebook to call for help.
They looked for an animal welfare non-profit organization that would know what to do, and got a quick response from Proyecto 4 Patas.
“Proyecto 4 Patas” (translates to Project for Paws) has been helping animals in Argentina for the last 13 years.
They came to the rescue and with the help of some neighbours, the local fire fighters and police departments, they worked together and were able to rescue the pup.
They used oil, first aid, and a lot of love to save her.
“She knew we were trying to help her. After we finished, we thought that she would be exhausted and let her sleep, but no, all she wanted was to stay near us and cuddle.” – The team at Proyecto 4 Patas
After getting the worst of the tar off at the scene, they carried her to an ambulance and took her to the Proyecto 4 Patas office.
After 9 straight hours of dedicated work by the volunteers, over 50 litres of oil, and three bath tubs full of detergent, the dog’s fur was finally clean and free of the black tar.
The team named the girl Aloe.
They were excited to unveil more of her true appearance with every layer they removed. And as you can imagine – she’s absolutely adorable! When she had her energy back, she was treated to a good meal and lots of water.
“Aloe loves eating absolutely everything, and she follows us around all day, all she wants is to give love and receive it. Everyone here is just crazy about her.” – Proyecto 4 Patas
Thanks to the amazing rescue team, Aloe has made a great recovery. Her story has been shared over 85,000 times and received more than 125,000 likes on Facebook.
And there’s a lot of good karma going around for all the volunteers who came to her aid.
Though of course, most of the non-profit’s followers are South American. Almost all of the 25,000 comments are in Spanish! Translated some of the comments say…
“Thank you for helping Aloe.” – Ana Alegre
“Without words. But these people know what’s the value of life is. Many blessings.” – Sandra Rangel
And here we have a totally recovered Aloe. What a little angel! She’s perked right up and is living her best life.
The work that this organization is doing is incredible. And the kids who found her, the dogs who sounded the alarm, as well as all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to clean Aloe were all instrumental in saving her life.
