Once an animal becomes a part of a human’s family, no one can sever the tie between them. When this man’s dog was accused of being a safety risk, the pup was taken away. But the man did not give up. He was determined to get his dog back.

Brian Ceccarelli is a veteran who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. After he rescued a dog named Chance, the two became best friends.

Chance is more than just a pet to Brian – he is his therapy dog. This loyal pup helps his human cope more and more every day. Everything was going well until last year, when tragedy struck.

Several complaints left Chance and Brian separated. A pizza delivery man claimed that the dog had jumped him. Another neighbor insisted that his dogs had been attacked. Chance was taken away and sent to death row.

Brian was devastated. He did everything he could to get his dog back, including hiring a lawyer.

“Chance has never attacked a person. He’s never bitten a person,” Jeremy Cohen, an attorney from Boston Dog Lawyers, told CBS Boston. “Now, Chance may behave badly, or he may not, but that’s sort of the case with all of our dogs.”

This is the same argument he made in court. Chance had been at the pound for 168 days, and all Brian wanted was to be with his dog again. The judge ruled in favor of Brian and his pup; at long last, the dog could come home. His owner was overjoyed.

“It’s taken a huge burden off my shoulders to know that he’s here. He’s home. He’s safe,” the man said.

Now that he had his pup back, Brian wanted to make sure that he would never lose him like that again. The man spent $10,000 to build a sleek new fence around his home – to keep Brian in and nuisances out. He also changed around the setup of the entryway so that Brian could not approach the door. Now newcomers would have no interaction with the dog.

Above all else, Brian was grateful to have Chance back. “He was a rescue dog. I rescued him,” he shared. “Then, he rescued me, and now I rescued him again. Now he’s back to rescuing me again.”

Now that Chance is home, Brian will never let him go again. Chance has been given another chance, and he couldn’t be happier.
