There is no excuse for being cruel to animals. It is downright unacceptable. Fortunately, there are plenty of organizations dedicated to helping pets who are neglected or abused by their owners. One dog’s story is absolutely heartbreaking, but it does have a happy ending.
Judith is a dog from British Columbia. She lived with abusive owners, who were not only neglectful but even cruel to her. She was constantly kept in the back yard, where she remained chained for 10 years. She was malnourished, isolated, and left out to suffer in the elements.
“She had no comforts, no blanket, no toys, not even a bone,” Animal Advocates explains. “Often there was no food or water.” Judith could not go on living in these conditions.
Several compassionate neighbors saw Judith’s situation and tried to help. They called The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or BCSPCA, but they were no help at all. They did not fine the owners or attempt to rescue the dog. Instead, they offered these horrendous people $50 to put Judith down.
After several calls and complaints, the owners decided to do just that. One day before the dog was set to die, a miracle happened.
One of the concerned neighbors discovered Animal Advocates. Workers from the organization quickly responded and rescued Judith. They had arrived just in the nick of time.
Animal Advocates brought Judith back to their shelter. She had a long way to go before she would be adoption ready, but under all that pain was a sweet, loving dog.
Judith’s matted fur was shaved off, revealing that she was extremely malnourished. Her tail had been so caked in mud that it could hardly move, but once it was free the pup began wagging it wildly. She was so grateful to her heroes for rescuing her from those horrible conditions.
This dog was surprisingly friendly for someone who had been abused for so long. She was adoption-ready in no time, and she had no trouble finding a forever home.
Mike and Alyssa fell in love with Judith from the moment they saw her. “[They] took one look at her, put their arms around her, and said, ‘We’re taking you home,'” Animal Advocates shared.
This was a heartwarming day for everyone involved. No one can take back the long years this dog suffered from abuse, but her new family can give her all the love and attention she could ever want. Judith is finally living out her well-deserved happily ever after.
