With so much going on around the world, a lot of military personnel from the United States are currently deployed. Depending on where they’re stationed and the type of work they do, some are only away from home for a few months.
But just imagine being gone for two years. Talk about dedication. Not only is having a mom or dad deployed hard on the family but also pets. We’ve all seen videos of when owners come home and the incredible responses their animals have when seeing them. But in one video, Murphy, a dog, has the sweetest reaction possible when seeing his mom again.
No one’s sure what to expect.
Upon returning home, one deployed woman hoped her dog Murphy would recognize her. After all, two years is a long time. Although this pair shared an incredibly loving bond, there was no guarantee that things would go the way she anticipated. Initially, you hear her calling her dog’s name.
Will her uniform confuse him?
The other concern was that perhaps her uniform would cause confusion for Murphy. When you factor in her fatigues with a two-year absence, the reaction was anyone’s guess. When her dog first comes running out, he stops and looks, only to bolt in the opposite direction. The mom gets down on her knees, again calling his name.
He’s apprehensive.
You see the dog run around for a few seconds and then he approaches her. But instead of jumping in her lap, he begins to bark and back away. She had to feel so disheartened yet she didn’t give up. Every time she tries to pet him, he scurries away.
Someone steps in to help.
A male in the background calls the dog over. Again, he’s not having any of it. But then, he sits down beside her. It’s a start. She gently strokes his head while talking softly. She realizes he’s scared and so she wants to give him the time needed to understand what’s happening and who she is.
His demeanor quickly changes.
All of the sudden, it’s as though a lightbulb went off in Murphy’s head. He moves closer to her. Then, he rests his head on her shoulder…as if to say, “It’s you, it’s really you.” It’s only a matter of seconds befpre Murphy goes completely crazy.
He’s no longer a timid and scared dog.
Murphy begins wagging is tail, licking his mom’s face, and jumping all over her. At one point, he even knocks her over onto her back. You hear the man say, “Now he knows you.” She repeatedly says to him “Hi.” He then falls into her lap lying flat on his back.
What a touching reunion. No, Murphy didn’t know his mom at first but now, he can’t get enough of her. Throughout the rest of the video, he’s all over the place. As you can imagine, she’s beyond thrilled that finally, her precious dog recognizes her. If you were to rate all the dog and deployed owner videos out there, this one would get a 10+.
