That’s a nice fence there, neighbour.
Check out this great fence this guy, Joe, fixed. Nice wood, well built, real fresh looking. He hasn’t Tom Sawyered someone into painting it yet, but honestly I’m a fan of the raw wood grain look anyway.
It’s a big fence too, I can imagine it would have taken the builder quite some time to put it all together. He even says explicitly in the video how proud he is of his creation. He also mentions exactly why he fixed it.
He’s trying to keep Stella in the yard.
Stella is his canine companion, who is eager to check out the great work her owner has done on the fence.
Except of course, this fence faces one fatal flaw.
It looks like the ground is raised up just ever so slightly where it connects with the house. This may very well have been exactly what caused the fence to need fixing. Who’s to say?
“No big deal, how can that possibly matter,” you might ask.
Well, let me tell you.
A couple inches can make all the difference, and Stella knows it too.
Stella quickly begins to inspect the job her owner has done. “Wow, looks great, Joe. Nice job. It really looks like a fence that can keep me in this time. You’ve bested me,” she’d say, if woofs and barks could translate to English.
Except, only moments later, Stella effortlessly puts all of Joe’s hard work to shame.
See ya later, Stella!
And she’s not even a greyhound!
Stella doesn’t even hesitate. She walks the length of the fence, and immediately hops the fence when she reaches the bit of raised ground I mentioned earlier.
Looking on at this scene of dashed hopes, crushed dreams, and futile efforts,
Joe can only mutter two, quiet words.
Damn it.
The video has reached over four million views, and elicited some great reactions from people! Check out these excerpts from Facebook and YouTube:
“I love the ‘damnit’ at the end. So many things going through his mind.” -Wesley T. Pitts
“Stella says, ‘Oh cool a hurdle!'” -scremped
“This never stops being funny.. i’ve watched it a dozen times..” -Mark Benson
“Pretty sure I can hear the dog laughing from the other side of the fence in the last 3 seconds of the video” -Skallywag
At this point, people should know that some dogs can get around just about any obstacle you put in their way. Here is another Shareably article with another canine acrobat who loves to embarass his baby gate.
If that record breaking greyhound is any indicator, dog owners will have to start building their fences at least two metres high if they want to be absolutely certain beyond the shadow of a doubt that their dog won’t be able to jump it. And even then, let’s be real…
Some dogs always find a way.
