When a brave woman rescued two chained up dogs abandoned in 100-degree heat, one of those good ol’ boys shows his deep gratitude. And he also senses when the woman needs his comfort.

Every dog owner knows their furry friends have the uncanny ability to sense the emotions of their owners. This video proves it and can show us how we can hone our own instinctual kindness.

The Good Samaritan in this video had seen two dogs locked up with two-foot chains and left outdoors in the dead of a hot summer. They had no food, no water, and no shelter.

She couldn’t sleep that night thinking about those poor dogs. So she made a choice to act.

This emotional video starts moments after the two dogs were rescued. One of the rescued pups is sitting in the front seat of the SUV as they are driven to safety.

Their rescuer reaches out and the sad-eyed dog places his paw on her hand, giving her thanks. This gesture brings out the emotions in the driver as she can be heard breaking down in tears.

The dog senses and understands the emotions that this lady is going through. She rescued them from this inhumane and deadly situation, and the dog wants to comfort her for her troubles.

The lady’s tears bring the dog closer as he tries to calm her by snuggling his body next to hers. It’s quite a touching scene.

How does someone make a choice to act when no one else will? What kind of individual sacrifices themselves to go to the aid of someone in need?

Wouldn’t it be great if we could channel this woman’s act of kindness into our daily practice? We just might get that loving-kindness back a hundredfold.

According to Psychology Today, kindness is instinctual.

“Being kind often requires courage and strength. Kindness is an interpersonal skill.”

Interpersonal skills are strong in this dog. It shows when he moves to rub up against the lady who just rescued him.

The article goes on to say …

“Survival of the fittest is usually associated with selfishness, meaning that to survive (a basic instinct) means to look out for yourself. But Darwin, who studied human evolution, actually didn’t see mankind as being biologically competitive and self-interested.”

“Darwin believed that we are a profoundly social and caring species. He argued that sympathy and caring for others is instinctual.”

So kindness may be one of our instinctual survival methods that help bring humanity together and bridge divides. Just like this dog saw the lady was in need and he brought himself closer.

This is a profound life lesson that our divided world needs right now.

The rescuer couldn’t sleep as the misery of those dogs was playing in her head. She had to act. She stepped out of her comfort zone when nobody else would.

Are there places you can act? Does anything keep you up at night? Can you search for what you can do to deliver an act of kindness?

Take a moment each day, maybe when you take that first sip of coffee, and give a moment to think about someone who could use some kindness.

Folks in need are most likely everywhere as we’ve all had a very tough year. Can you develop your senses like this dog? And can you open yourself up to act when someone is in need just like this brave woman? These two make it look natural.
