Owners Drop Dog Off In Garbage Bag At Shelter
How could someone just leave a dog in a garbage bag at the shelter?

This sweet-faced pup is named Blackie. It’s hard to believe that someone could put this beautiful girl in a garbage bag, toss her in a cardboard box, and drop her off at a shelter without looking back as she bled from a tumor.

But unfortunately, that’s what happened to her.

“Blackie was surrendered because she was bleeding all over,” Frosted Faces Foundation (FFF) Executive Director Kelly Smíšek told The Dodo.

That’s why she was in a plastic bag. Her owners didn’t want her to bleed all over their car.

After the Carson Animal Shelter posted a video of Blackie online, the staff at FFF went to go pick her up since they specialize in helping older dogs like Blackie.

In addition to suffering from a painful bleeding tumor, vets who examined Blackie found that she had a heart murmur, scars on her body, an eye that didn’t work correctly, and poor dental hygiene.

“Someone didn’t take very good care of her at all,” High Valley Veterinarian Hospital’s Dr. Beth Gordon told TODAY.

Even though Blackie had obviously been neglected and was in pain she was still a very happy and good dog.

“She is eager to please, curious and quickly finds her human’s side in times of uncertainty,” Smíšek said. “But you can tell that her love has not been reciprocated for a long time.”

Once Blackie was in the hands of FFF, she knew she would be OK.

They bathed her, groomed her, and fed her properly. Smíšek said Blackie was happy to have all the attention and trusted her new friends.

“We are privileged to be able to provide Blackie the care she desperately needed, offer the compassion that her family clearly did not qualify her for and we are honored to find her a family that she, FFF and all her virtual supporters will be proud of,” Smíšek told The Dodo.

Blackie’s test showed that she had a cancerous tumor that thankfully cancer didn’t spread to her lymph nodes or lungs.

She had surgery to remove the tumor and cancer, which required the removal of her tail.

“She has recovered well, the swelling has gone down and she is running around happily,” Smíšek told TODAY.

FFF is looking for a forever family for Blackie that will love her the way she deserves to be loved. You can help FFF help dogs like Blackie by making a donation here or sharing this story.
