Medical workers pulled a litter of seven puppies from under a Phoenix home last month.

While workers prepped the house for demolition, they spotted two Labrador retrievers run under the home’s foundation. After calling the Animal Humane Society, the construction workers waited until help arrived. Quickly after the demo workers made the call, emergency medical animal technicians rushed in.

They quickly rescued the canines from under the house.

Now, the puppies can rest easy knowing that they are well taken care of at the Arizona Humane Society’s “Mutternity” Suites. Their mother is watching over them, and they have all the support and care they could ever need to thrive in the world.

Animal rescue technician Theresa Scheckel saw a few dogs run under the house, and so she knew they needed to check the rest of the building foundations.

Scheckel was asked about the incident and explained her side of the story in a report with Fox News 12 Phoenix:

“Then a female came out and looked like she had been nursing,” Scheckel said.

The problem was that the home’s foundation wasn’t exactly strong or sturdy, and there was no way to crawl under it- at least from a human perspective. Scheckel and another technician realized that if they were going to find those dogs under the building, they would have to dig a hole.

Two hours later, they finally crawled through the hole and began their search.

They found the puppies all huddled in one of the corners.

“This is why they do the work that they do,” commented Bretta Nelson of the Arizona Humane Society.

Nelson went on to say that the team has rescued more than 4,000 animals in just a year and that doing so is what gives them energy.

“It’s what they trained for.” She added.

In the interview, you can sense her extreme pride for the team.

It almost feels as though she takes rescuing these animals personally, making it all the more beautiful when they make a save or bring in a homeless animal. That’s the heart of a true animal rescuer, right there.

She went on to add that the puppies and mother dog will be up for adoption. Most of the dogs will go to foster homes and have regular veterinarian checkups to make sure they grow up as healthy puppies.

It’s great news for all of us to hear about how the puppies are safe and sound at the humane society. What a turnaround! From being almost destroyed in demolition to being cared for and loved at the Humane Society, these pups have seen it all.
