When Imgur user Gina agreed to take care of their friend’s cats when she left for Navy boot camp, she didn’t know that there would be a big surprise in store…
About two weeks into the cats moving in, my roommate texted me that Terra seemed bloated. She did, but since she was purring and not in pain, I put off taking her to the vet to get checked up, since I thought maybe she was just a fat cat.
A week later, Gina heard noises coming from the room the cats were in. After some investigating, she decided to look under Terra and to her disbelief saw two kittens. In total, 7 healthy kittens were born.
Terra was a great mother to her litter. Here she is nursing some of them while the others are off to find trouble.
One of the house dogs, a weenie mix named Archer took an interest in the 7 little new additions. After close supervision, Archer was allowed near them at all times, as mama cat didn’t seem to mind at all. He would lick them all over, watch them closely, and keep an eye on them often.
Archer even “guarded” the kittens from the other house dog, a basset hound named Flash and would hover over the kittens when he came close. Once, Archer even kidnapped 2 kittens and brought them into the other room with Gina.
I was watching TV and looked down and he had carried two out to chill with us…he even brought one into my bed

Terra seemed to be very pleased with her new babysitter. Archer even gave them baths for her.
Gina even adopted one of the kittens for herself, one of the orange kittens who she named Fred. Archer and Fred are still the best of friends 3 years later. They enjoy cuddling and grooming each other.
All of Terra’s kittens were adopted and are currently living happily in their new furever homes!
This all just goes to show that many animals are capable of forming amazing interspecies relationships. The love an animal can provide, whether it is toward a human or another animal, is truly incredible and these bonds can last a lifetime.
