Dogs are incredibly loyal creatures. Once a pup bonds with a human, he will stay by that person’s side forever. There is nothing that can overcome this friendship – at least in the eyes of the dog.
Humans, however, don’t always live up to their end of the bargain. While many of us adore our pets and would never do anything to hurt them, some people see the world quite differently. One story, in particular, shows just how cruel people can be. Even when all hope was lost, this dog never gave up on his humans.
At around 5pm on December 17th, a tragic event took place. A video recording shows a small vehicle pulling up to the corner of Timor Grove and Pacific Road in Trentham, a suburb of Stoke-on-Trent in North Staffordshire. As the car came to a stop, a man got out of the driver’s side. He immediately headed toward the back of the car. There he opened the trunk and pulled out a dog bed. All the while a black and white Staffie followed him.
The man held the dog on a leash, and the poor pup had no idea what was coming. His tail wagged as he sniffed the ground; this dog didn’t know what his human was doing or why he had been brought here. He only knew that he would follow this man anywhere, and that is exactly what he did.
The man carried the dog bed as he walked across the street. He walked slowly so the poor pup wouldn’t get too excited. This would not be a happy day of play.
As the man reached the other side of the road, he plopped the dog bed onto the street. It sat there on the pavement, in the bike lane. While there may not have been many cars on the road, this was not a safe spot for the dog to rest.
The pup looked around curiously. It made no sense that his owner would do this. Next came an even more sinister trick.
The man untethered the dog from his leash. The pup bounded around, still thinking this day could be full of excitement. As the dog jumped about, the man picked up the dog bed yet again. This time he threw it and bolted back to the car. He wasn’t fast enough, though; the dog saw his human trying to leave him.
The stunned Staffie sprinted back to the car. He was determined to be reunited with the man who brought him there. The heartbreaking footage shows the dog running around the car, trying to find a way in. At one point the pup jumped up to look into the window, but he couldn’t find a way back inside the car.
The dog kept jumping up at the window, but to no avail. This would be goodbye. The cruel human abandoned the pup right there on the street. The car drove off, and the heartbroken hound was left with nothing to do but wait.
An hour later a stranger happened to walk by the Staffie, who was sitting in his bed. The passerby altered the RSPCA, a charity that seeks to end the misery of “animals suffer[ing] from neglect, cruelty, and abuse.”
RSPCA director Natalie Perehovsky is now asking the public for information regarding the abandoned Staffie and the men who are responsible for this tragic event.
“The footage has to be seen to be believed,” Perehovsky says. “It’s just awful. To see the poor dog in such obvious distress jumping up at the car as it drives away it just heartbreaking. I can’t understand how someone could do this.”
Unfortunately, modern science hasn’t helped much in uncovering this mystery. “The vets scanned his microchip and we have traced two previous owners in the Birmingham area, but do not believe either are the current owners and therefore not those responsible for abandoning the dog.”
Still, Perehovsky refuses to give up hope. She is determined to find the men who caused this poor pup’s grief. She insists that, based on the video evidence, there must be a way to identify these individuals. “One man can be seen clearly in the footage dumping the dog, and there is a second person in the driver seat of the car. I am very keen to hear from anyone who recognizes the vehicle, the man or the dog.”
In the mean time, all we can do is look to the future. Fortunately for the Staffie, things are looking up. “The veterinary staff have nicknamed [him] Snoop,” Perehovsky explains, “and he is in good condition, thought to be two years old. He is a white Staffie with black marking, and is such a friendly, lovely boy.”
If Snoop’s former owners don’t claim him, he is sure to find a loving home somewhere new. “He’s currently being cared for at a private boarding kennels where he will get all the care he needs whilst I investigate further,” Perehovsky shares.
If you have any information regarding the Staffie, the men, or the car, please reach out to Natalie Perehovsky. “Anyone who recognises the vehicle, the dog or the men in the footage can contact me in complete confidence,” she insists.
“It’s beggars belief that someone could abandon a dog like this at Christmas, but we are so thankful to the kind people who found Snoop sitting sadly in his bed, for taking him to the safety of a vets straight away.”
Snoop’s story started out grim, but it is well on its way to a happy ending. Hundreds of people around the world have heard of this poor pup’s plight and have reached out to offer him a home.
“Have just been looking at all the media coverage Snoop has had these last couple of days and it is phenomenal,” Rachel Butler tweeted. “His story has gone as far and wide as USA, Russia, and India! Thank you every boding for sharing. For now, our famous Snoop is enjoying a snooze.”
