In general, dogs don’t like strangers. This is one of the reasons why a lot of them hate mailmen. They see them as threats to their humans and their territories.

When a new mail carrier got assigned to a local community in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the dogs in the area were expected to be extra protective of their territory.

However, instead of chasing the new mailman away, one dog gave him a warm welcome. Moose, a Golden Retriever, decided he wanted to be friends with the stranger.

When the man arrived, Moose excitedly ran out of the house to warmly greet him.

He even gave him a doggie hug. This took the man by surprise. Even Meghan Gruszynski, Moose’s human, was shocked at the dog’s behavior.

Then, it became a daily thing.

Moose’s day wouldn’t be complete without seeing his new friend. And each time the man pays him a visit, he gets even more excited.

The mailman, on the other hand, was impressed with Moose’s persistence and patience. The dog waits for the truck to come every morning or early afternoon. Once he hears its sound, he will immediately run to the front door and ask Meghan to let him out.

The adorable Golden Retriever likes belly rubs and that’s exactly what the mailman gives him every time they see each other. He certainly enjoys being showered with lots of attention and affection.

Moose and his human learned something about the mailman.

Through the visits, they discovered that the poor man lost his own dog. As a dog owner, Moose’s human knew how heartbreaking it was for the guy. Because of that, she’s quite happy to know that her dog is helping the man heal.

Meghan posts videos of Moose’s interaction with his favorite mailman on the internet.

People who have watched the videos have nothing but good things to say about Moose, his human, and his new best friend.

One of them commented:

“Dogs are such sensible animals. They know when someone needs love.”

Another one said:

“Omg! This is seriously the cutest thing I’ve seen!!❤”

Another viewer said:

“One of the sweetest stories of how human and animals both can surprise you.”

Meghan and Moose aim to spread love through the videos.

She shared:

“Beautiful things happen around you daily and we are so happy to be able to share this act of love and kindness with the world.”

Moose is an internet star.

He actually has his own Instagram account where you can see a lot of adorable photos of him and his daily adventures. He has more than 29,000 followers!

Meghan hopes to share more videos of the pair.

She shared:

“Hopefully it continues for many, many years! He’s our mailman ’til he retires, so it should be fun watching their love.”

If your dog doesn’t love the mailman like Moose, there are a few things you can do to improve their relationship. One of them is using positive reinforcement. For example, you can ask the mailman to put treats in the mailbox each time he comes. That way, the dog will learn to associate his arrival with something nice.

Don’t punish your dog or yell at him for barking at the mailman. Remember, dogs are protective creatures. They will do anything to keep their humans safe.
