Animals need love, just like humans do. They also need food and shelter to survive. One dog thought she had it all when she went home with her family. It turned out, however, to be a cruel trick when her family openly abandoned her.

Sidney is a three month old German Shepherd who once thought she had found her forever home. But it was not long before she was cast out into the cold. The family gave her up to California animal control after deciding not to keep her.

The worst part of this heartbreaking story is that the family had no specific reason for giving the dog up. They simply didn’t want her anymore. Some people have no sense of responsibility toward others.

Since the family didn’t bother to look for an adoptive home for Sidney, she currently resides at a kill shelter. She faces a harsh fate – unless she can find a loving family to adopt her.

Sidney is a sweet dog; she is well mannered and has a good temperament. No one can figure out how these people could give her away.

Sadly, this kind of thing happens all too often. According to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA, “Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year.” That number is astounding.

There is hope, however. ASPCA reports that about 3.2 million of these pets are adopted each year. The warm hearts of loving pet-owners save almost half of the pets who are placed into these shelters. These numbers prove that when it comes to helping homeless animals, every act of kindness counts.

If you would like to make a huge difference in a dog’s life, consider adopting Sidney. She is a female who has not yet been spayed, but she is full of love and loyalty. Giving her a forever home would not only warm her heart, it would save her life.

For more information about Sidney, call:

Los Angeles County Animal Control – (310)523-9566

or visit the Carson Shelter in Gardena, California

It is horrifying that someone could do this to their own dog, but this doesn’t have to be the end of Sidney’s story. By helping her find a home you will become a part of the solution to ending pet homelessness.

UPDATE: Sidney was adopted and found a home on 4/24/2017!
