What have you learned during the pandemic? Well, most of us probably have many answers and itโs a good thing.
If before, we were too busy living our โnormalโ lives โ the COVID-19 ordeal has brought lockdowns, closures, and various protocols. But these things arenโt hindrances to learn new things. In fact, we have more time to be productive even while we are just at home.
If youโre looking for something to learn during the Yuletide season, you have come to the perfect place.
Why? Because we will share an easy procedure on how to make a Christmas Gnome. Whatโs more amazing about this is you can finish it within 15 minutes. It may sound impossible but itโs not. Weโre not kidding!
So, this DIY hack was shared by a YouTuber with the name Miriamโs Crafting Cottage.
Now, if youโre ready, take note of these materials that youโll need to achieve these cute little gnomes:
- Fur fabrics
- Little rubber bands (Preferably colorless or clear as they are sturdier)
- Batting or cotton
- Twine strings
- blush makeup with brush
- Bell
- Ribbon
- Socks (Three pieces per gnome)
- Scissors
- Rice
- Plastic cup
The material might be overwhelming for you as thereโs a lot but the thing is, almost all of them can be found at home.
Now, letโs proceed with the procedure.
1st step:
Cut the first sock in two and make sure to cut them on the heel part of the sock. Use the other half to cover the inner part of a plastic cup and keep the other one for future use.
2nd step:
Fill the plastic cup with rice. According to Miriam, 4 cups will do but it will all depend on the socks that you use. The goal for this step is to form the body of the gnome. If you want a smaller gnome, you can use a lesser amount of rice and vice versa.
3rd step:
If youโre already satisfied with the size of the gnomeโs body, secure it by tying it with a rubber band. The next thing youโll do is to get another rubber band to form its nose.
You can do this by grabbing enough amount of rice inside the socks and make sure that it will form into a little circle. Then, tie it with another rubber band.
4th step:
To make the gnomeโs nose look realistic, put some blush on it. Then, use the twine to secure the rubber band ties more. Just make sure that you do it tighter. This is both applicable in the knot on the nose and the upper part of the body.
5th step:
Get your second sock (preferably with a different design from the first one), then, cut it again in two and do it again on the heel part. Use the other half to cover the gnomeโs body and keep the other half again. Use a glue gun to stick the sock to the gnomeโs body.
6th step:
Get a piece of fur which you can cut in 4.5โณ x 4.5โณ or bigger (once again, it will depend on the size of your gnome). Then, cut a small part in the middle of the fur so the nose of the gnome will fit above it. Tuck the whole thing under the gnomeโs nose and affix it again with hot glue.
The maker also added that you can use twine to tie the middle of the gnomeโs body. This hack will make the gnomeโs stance stiffer.
7th step:
This step is for the head of the gnome. Youโll need to use another sock for this one and it would be great if it has a different design from the first two socks. Just like the first few steps, youโll need to cut it again on the heel.
Use the toe part of the sock and fill it with some cotton batting until you form a circle. Once you did, tie it with a rubber band. Put a second tie using the ribbon where you will also bind the bell. Once youโre done with this, you can add more stuffing inside the socks.
After doing all this, you should be able to form it like itโs the gnomeโs hat. Of course, you should attach it to the gnomeโs head.
This will be the finished product.
Itโs so easy to make, right? Once you get the hang of it, youโll be able to make this in less than 15 minutes!
Moreover, another thing that you can learn about this project is that it will remind you that celebrating Christmas doesnโt need you to have lots of money. Sometimes, you just need to be a little crafty.
