We have been going through some dark times as of late. While the world is in the middle of a pandemic, there is also so many other heavy things going on in the world. Lately, it feels like there isn’t an ounce of good news.
So that’s why it is so uplifting to see this brand-new daddy-daughter duet from Mat and Savanna Shaw. When we are feeling at our lowest, their bright smiles and even brighter voices inspire us and give us that little bit of hope we lost hold of.
The two covered “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” a song recorded by Simon & Garfunkel way back in 1970. And while it may be an old tune, many of its lyrics still ring true. It felt like the perfect song choice to take on right now.
“When you’re weary, feeling small / When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all,” Savanna sings on her own, kicking off their rendition which is simply led by piano.
“I’m on your side, oh, when times get rough / And friends just can’t be found,” she continues with the reassuring lyrics that still feel so relevant today, 50 years later.
While Savanna sings with confidence, her father, Mat, continues to look over at her with so much pride. You can see just how proud of her he is, just by looking at his eyes. He also can’t help but smile so big as she sings.
“My parents showed me this song last week for the first time, and I was immediately fond of the message. When your soul connects to music, it’s easy to pour your heart into it! We recorded it right away, and wanted it to be our debut song on streaming platforms,” Savanna wrote.
“My mom has always reminded me that ‘We rise by lifting others.’ We are entirely free to support and celebrate our fellow men on this life journey; to encourage, lead, learn from, and love. Be a bridge over someone’s troubled water, and you’ll soon find that that by doing so, your cup was filled, too. There is room for everyone!” She continued.
Later on, Mat takes over and to our surprise, his voice is just as good as his daughter’s.
Seems like it runs in the family! Their two voices really sound like they were made for each other, especially when they sing and harmonize together. Both voices are so smooth and solid, not a single note out of place.
The daddy-daughter duo only uploaded this video just last week and it has already gotten 348,000 views and still climbing. So many people agree that this is exactly what they needed to hear right now.
Their stripped-back rendition of the song just shows how good of a song it is, too! It still stands and feels so current.
On their channel, while they do tons of covers together, they have also done several solo performances. And each video is always accompanied by a super sweet caption that is so uplifting and positive. They really want to brighten people’s days!
