Taking care of one kid is tiring. It’s like an exercise in energy-draining, and you just can’t wait to rest. What if you were assigned to chaperone a group of kindergarteners?
Clint Edwards is the creator of the No Idea What I’m Doing: A Daddy Blog and last October 19, he wrote a hilarious but touching Facebook post about his experience leading a group of kindergarten students during a school trip to a pumpkin patch.
“I chaperoned a kindergarten class field trip to a pumpkin patch, and let me just say, I haven’t had a drink in 16 years, but I wanted a drink today. I wanted one real bad,” Clint Edwards started his post.
By this introduction, we already feel his exhaustion. After that, he clarified that he dearly loves his daughter. He, in fact, he has 3 children. No problem then, right? Wrong…
“I only had five in my group, and they listened about as good as goldfishes. The whole time I was afraid I’d lose one in the corn field, they’d never be found, and ultimately end up as the premise for a Stephen King novel,” he added as he remembers the start of his day.
Children in this age group have short attention spans and their energy levels are on high, especially during a field trip. They were all too excited!
He said that the field trip lasted for around 4 hours but it surely felt like an “eternity” for him and he specifically mentions this one kid.
“…that one wild little boy that is either destined to be a ground breaking artist or an inmate, I ended the afternoon with a long hot soak in the bath, TOO many cookies, and a handful of Tylenol,” said this very exhausted Dad.
Surely, most of us can relate to Clint and his experience and we’re sure that he’ll think twice before doing this again.
As he continued in his post, he added how the children’s teacher was able to handle all of the students like the pro that she was. He was also amazed at how she was able to get ALL the children to change their shoes twice and no one lost a shoe!
Aside from the obvious humor that Clint had in his post, it was intended to appreciate all the teachers who are doing all their best for these kids. It’s more than just a job, it’s a passion with lots of patience.
“If you are a teacher reading this, give yourself a huge pat on the back. You are incredible. And if you know a teacher, give them a huge thank you,” he added on the last part of his post.
He ended his post by saying that he was off to a store to get more cookies and probably some ice cream.
Clint Edwards surely deserves a treat!
