Weimaraner’s are known as the perpetual two-year old’s. They are always active and hyper. What makes them seem like a dog that never grows up is their constant need for attention from their owners.
Gus, the rescued Weimaraner, is the perfect example of this attention seeking trait.
With those big adorable eyes and the patience (almost) of a saint, he’s willing to put all his effort in to get his owner’s attention. And it couldn’t be more adorable!
The Weimaraner Club of America states,
“It’s hard to generalize about the Weimaraner personality but a core trait, that runs in the veins of all of them, is that they are people–centric. They love the company of humans to the point that they will follow you around your house like a second shadow. Weimaraners are always underfoot, curious, wanting to be involved in your activities.”
Gus’ owner wanted to have a little fun with Gus and see what Gus would do if he did not look at him. From the very beginning, Gus does not like this game. Gus is up on his two back legs because his two front legs are on his owner’s lap in the chair.
Gus is letting his owner know that he is there and wants all his attention.
The owner will look randomly look at Gus and this makes Gus even more impatient.
He tries putting a paw on his owner’s shoulder to get his attention, but nothing is working. Gus only gets short eye contact and no pets or conversation. So, Gus tries a new tactic by trying to ignore his owner too, but still staying where he is too.
This game of who can ignore each other the longest does not last long.
Gus cannot help but give in.
Gus’ tail is wagging throughout the whole exchange, showing that he is too excited to ignore his owner. The next best option is to bark at him. This gets his owner’s attention but not long enough for Gus. When this does not work, Gus decides his dad is not worth his attention anymore. He tries to pat his legs to get Gus back up, but he is not budging.
Gus has changed his attention to his human mom behind the camera.
He is going to stare her down until he gets the attention he deserves and wants.
She really has his attention once she starts whispering to him,
“Do you want food? Are you hungry? What do you want? Go get your dish.”
The mention of food will get any dog’s attention.
Gus gets closer to the kitchen counter, letting her know he definitely wants food. He does budge to get his dish though. After being ignored by his dad, he wants his mom to serve him because he deserves the extra attention after that game of silence. It does not take Gus long to run away.
Hopefully he is getting dish and getting his rightfully deserved meal.
