Finding the perfect birthday gift is tricky, even if it’s for someone you know very well. There’s always the question if they’ll like it or if they already have one.
But there is one easy way to make sure you’re giving someone the perfect gift…
Just don’t choose a normal gift! Now, that may actually be easier than you think. In fact, a lucky fella named Doug got to be surprised with the perfect, abnormal gift and he did not see it coming.
Going by the look on his face, he didn’t anyway. When his 46th birthday rolled around, his wife brought him into a room with just a small wooden box in it.
So sweet and open-hearted Doug was that he thought the box was the gift itself!
“I’m not just giving you the box I’m taking the box back honey”-
“You are?” Doug jokes with a shocked face “…well then I’m not gonna open it!”
Well obviously Doug is quite the joker, but the joke’s on him, in a very good way. When he does eventually turn the box and open it, he wasn’t sure what to expect.
What kind of gift would be presented in a wooden box, which isn’t even part of the gift?
Pulling out two items, he doesn’t yet know what to make of them. With a small collar in one hand, and a picture frame in the other Doug begins putting the pieces together.
On the collar is a tag with the name “Stella” and Doug’s phone number. In the frame is a picture of Doug’s wife and step-daughter, holding a 3-week-old golden retriever.
You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to solve this case, but Doug seems to still need a bit of convincing.
“That’s Stella!” Doug’s wife says when Doug asks who the pup is in the picture.
“Stella?” No, Marlon, this isn’t A Streetcar Named Desire, this is A Birthday Boy Named Doug, and you’re about to receive your gift.
Look at how Doug’s face lights up when he finally comes to terms with what’s happening.
Doug’s step-son emerges with Stella in hand, a sweet little golden retriever pup who is to be Doug’s new best friend.
Doug is handed the puppy and still seems blown away.
Whether or not Doug had been asking for a puppy is unclear, but what is clear is that it’s definitely something that he wants.
Already Doug and dog are close and waste no time getting cuddles started.
Stella wags her tail happily in Doug’s arms, already comfortable around him.
Stella gives Doug a few exploratory licks and already seems to feel at home with him.
Dog remains in disbelief, stunned but ecstatic. Stella lived with the family for over 10 years, but given that this video was shot probably around 2004 according to one particularly investigative viewer, she has sadly since passed away at a happy old age.
This video is a joyful memorial to the day that Doug met his best friend.
It’s beautiful to watch Doug’s genuine, heartfelt reaction to meeting Stella. We’re so glad these two had each other and had many wonderful years together.
