Even though it is 2017, the act of “coming out” of the closet can still be as daunting and harrowing as it was decades ago.

We’ve come a long way – the Supreme Court landmark decision that made gay marriage legal in all states in 2015 shows how far we have come. It’s hard to believe it has been 2 years since that decision was made.

Even though gay marriage is now legal, unfortunately, it is not accepted around the nation. It is then understandable that children may feel cautious when revealing to their parents that they are gay.

However, these parents dealt with their son’s indirect coming out confession in the most heartwarming way, and it’s sweeping the internet.

The note reads:

“Nate,

I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now.

I’ve known you were gay since you were six. I’ve loved you since you were born.

– Dad.

P.S. Your mom and I think that you and Mike make a cute couple.”

The original title of the post says it all: “Every parent should be so cool; the world would be a better place.”

Truer words have never been spoken.

The note even included a subtle dad joke: “The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now.”

A class act all around. Very heartwarming!
