We’ve all wondered what would happen if our pets could talk.
Instead of staying curious, one man decided to create a conversation with his dog. The man behind this chat is Andrew Grantham, and he clearly has a creative mind.
The video stars Grantham’s voice plus a rescue dog and is worth a few minutes of your time.
In the video, the talking dog had previously asked Grantham to adopt a rescue cat. He specifically requested a female tabby if he could have one.
What makes this video so impressive is the dog’s incredible range of expressions. They seem to fit in perfectly with what he is “saying” and the emotions that go along with it.
The video starts off simple, with Grantham letting the pup know that he went to the pet store.
At this point, the canine seems eager to go with him back to the store and walks towards the door, saying, “Let’s go” in perfect sync with his movements.
Grantham has edited the video with incredible skill, perfectly timing the dog’s excited jump at 0:12 with him exclaiming, “I can’t believe it” and expressing joy about the tabby he hopes for.
We then see the dog looking confused and off screen, making us truly believe he is looking for the cat. This is followed by him directly asking where she is – and even heading out to search for her.
Throughout the entire conversation, it seems as if Grantham is simply teasing the dog.
He says that at the pet store, he looked at snakes, and the expression the canine makes at 0:24 with his tongue out makes it seem as if he really is disgusted by the idea!
Grantham then lists all the animals he looked at in the pet store, including guinea pigs, hamsters, and more. The perfectly timed excitement from the dog comes right when he lists kittens.
The impressive editing of the video becomes obvious again when Grantham tells the dog he looked at hermit crabs. The dog definitely looks exasperated at 0:49 while he says, “Oh, come on!”
To make the video even funnier, Grantham included some witty lines along the way.
A perfect example is when the dog says that if he doesn’t get a kitten, he’s “going to chew this couch’s arms right off.” Later, a meow from off-screen is added right when the dog is looking away, making it seem as if he heard a kitten in the house and wanted to check it out.
Not only is this video hilarious, it is also for a good cause.
Grantham made the video together with Pets Add Life, a nonprofit that aims to show people how pets can enrich their lives. It also strongly encourages adoption and being a responsible pet owner.
Incidentally, in the video, the cat that Grantham supposedly got was adopted from the animal shelter, not bought. This is something many animal advocates are in favor of.
If the idea of a talking dog seems familiar, that’s because Grantham had a previous viral video based on the same idea.
You may remember “Ultimate Dog Tease,” which was posted six years ago.
In that video, Grantham pretended to talk to a different rescue dog, teasing him about food.
He doesn’t just imagine the conversations he’d have with various rescue dogs. He has also created “Ultimate Cat Tease,” where he talks to Jupiter the cat about fish.
These animal videos have made Grantham successful.
He told CTV News Canada a few years later that his viral “Talking Animals” videos did so well that he could quit his job and create the videos full time. Based on his lack of recent videos, however, it seems that he has moved on to a new career path.
