The music of Queen is more popular than ever before. Their songs are timeless and will always be adored across the world.
And the news is filled with stories about Queen.
For instance, the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody recently won the Best Motion Picture award at the Golden Globes and earned more than $700 million at the box office.
But even before the biopic was released, the internet was filled with examples of adoration for Queen.
One example comes from the band Green Day’s YouTube channel.
The video is a cover of the 1975 Queen classic single Bohemian Rhapsody. There’s nothing unusual about a set of musicians covering another set of musicians. But this video is unique.
Though the video is from a live Green Day concert, it doesn’t feature the band at all.
Instead, the waiting crowd harmonizes in sync to the song.
For the entire five minute duration of the song, the crowd doesn’t miss a beat. The tens of thousands of people present know every last word, every last beat.
This is no small feat. Bohemian Rhapsody features many changes in tempo and song structure. But the crowd knows it off by heart.
The video was shot in Hyde Park in London, which ironically is right next to where the British Queen herself lives.
Who knows if crowds at other locations would have sung the song so enthusiastically?
If anyone needed any more proof that Queen is beloved, then just take a look at how much attention this unique cover video has received.
Since being uploaded in 2017, it has managed to get over 17 million views, as well as 345,000 likes and 17,000 comments.
And the comments are filled with praise for Queen and the song:
If Freddie Mercury could see how much people love him and his work, surely he’d be humbled. The crowd video, the movie of his life and so much more show just how beloved and missed he is.
But there are many more examples of unique Queen covers online.
One of the funniest and strangest comes from the employees of Walmart.
In that video, an over enthusiastic manager of Walmart attempts to rouse his employees by having them clap and stomp the beat to another Queen classic, We Will Rock You.
The main difference is that he’s changed the lyrics to “We are, we are Walmart.”
He gets the entire team to sing along with him, but they don’t appear to be very enthusiastic.
Other amended lyrics include changing “You’re gonna be a big man some day,” to “You’re gonna be a cashier someday,” and “You big disgrace,” to “You own this place.”
However, there are some other bands that have been documented as recording songs that are sung with enthusiasm by waiting crowds.
In America, the crowd at a Patriot and Jaguars game sang Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer during an AFC game.
However, unlike the Bohemian Rhapsody crowd video, this crowd only manages the chorus.
At another football game in Michigan, a crowd was recorded singing Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey.
Again, this crowd doesn’t get every single line, like in the Bohemian Rhapsody cover, showing that Queen’s band members really are the champions of the world when it comes to crowdsourced cover songs.
