We’re bombarded every day with pictures of perfect bodies on television and social media. Even celebrities aren’t immune to the pressure.
Drew Barrymore, who is no stranger to struggle and pressure, is now sharing her fitness journey with the world on Instagram. So far, she’s managed to lose 25lbs over the last three months.
Barrymore, 43, is the mother of two daughters and currently stars in the show Santa Clarita Diet and has been recently showed off her progress:
“Here is me in a before pose and then 25 pounds later in the same place. You can tell my face is so much thinner!”
Of course, Barrymore has a perfectly healthy body in the before pic, but is highlighting the parts of her body she feels she needs to work on with her pose.
The after pic shows her after intense workouts, with a noticeably slimmer stomach and face.
Of course, she also acknowledges that she has the privilege of her own personal trainer, Marnie Alton.
It’s important to know that despite having a trainer and childcare support, she still has to put a lot of hard work in to get results:
“This takes me so much work. Diet and exercise and fighting like a lion for it! Damn you genetics!”
But it’s nice to see Barrymore willing to love whatever “package” she comes in, even if she’s striving to become even more fit:
“I just know that I have the control to be what I want. Even if it is hard AF!”
Her post also included some action shots of everyone’s favorite – ab work!
It’s pretty clear from the before and after shots that she’s been doing a lot of core exercises to slim down.
Barrymore has been open about her weight fluctuations in the past, which has no doubt helped many men and women come to terms with their own fitness issues.
Like many women, she struggled to lose weight after giving birth to each of her daughters, Olive and Frankie, and also lost 20lbs before starring in her newest show.
Prior to her return to television, she admitted that she had “let herself go” after splitting from her husband.
Still, when she started the show she was only 145lbs – that’s still 25lbs less than the average American woman. She lost 20lbs over the course of the first season, but likes to “let it go” while she’s not filming.
She even described a recent incident with a fan who asked if she was pregnant, to which she replied: “No, I’m just fat right now.”
Now that she stars as Sheila, a woman who develops a taste for human flesh on the Netflix zombie hit, she wants to look like a woman on a high-protein diet. She joked:
“Well if you’re eating, in her case, human flesh, I mean, I basically thought, well, if a woman is just eating simple protein, everyday all day long, she would lose weight. It’s like a very macabre Atkins.”
While Barrymore is on a fitness journey with ups and downs that many of us recognize, she still hates dieting. On The Late Late Show with James Corden, she admitted:
“Let’s face it, I hate it. I would much rather eat fettuccine alfredo all day long.”
