In a video released by Reuters recently, a barn full of cows were allowed to taste freedom after a long winter indoors. The enthusiasm and energy they demonstrated upon their release was a heartwarming sight for the farmers as well as the people gathered around.
Thanks to the power of the internet, we get to share in their joy as well!
MumOnTheBrink took some amazing pictures of a past cow release as well!
These cows definitely enjoy the beginning of spring. After spending a long dark winter in their sheds, this herd was recently released into fields, and the way they are just full of energy and happiness is worth a thousand words. There is no denying that it was one of the best days of the year for the herd.
The ceremony
The latest video was shot in Sweden where scores of cows were released in part of what has become an annual ceremony. Cow release has been a long-lasting tradition among farmers in colder regions. Thousands of people made time from their busy schedules to watch and be a part of this well-known tradition.
Connecting rural with urban
The practice was once limited to a few farmers, but with the passage of time, more farms are opening up their gates to give urbanites an opportunity to see the animals up close and enjoy that the cows express as they bound and leap into the sunlight. It’s certainly worth the time and energy that visitors invest to view this once-per-season phenomenon.
Joy all around
One of the attendees at this year’s event expressed his opinion by stating that this event is mainly targeted at children who learn to welcome spring with joy and realize its beauty through the eyes of the cows. He also added that the atmosphere is quite positive because the cows are delighted, the people watching them are happy, the cold darkness of winter is disappearing, and the warmer months are arriving. The herd’s joy appears to be contagious.
It’s a moment in time that is hard to recapture on any other day of the year.
The thrill of freedom
Every person there was thrilled to see the sight when the happy cows trotted down the road and began bounding around their new home in the green fields. Meanwhile, the cows were in their bubble of joy and were playfully racing each other without a care in the world. It was a race where no cow wanted to win, but every cow wanted to travel as far as wide as possible.
We can imagine that the sound of the chirping birds, the smell of fresh green grass, and the experience of fresh air after a long winter stuck inside must have felt like a little piece of heaven.
