Okay, you’ve heard of tiny homes, houses shaped like space ships, and even those made out of shipping containers. But one couple decided to go in a different direction. What they ended up with isn’t just unique but amazing.
Designing a home in central London
For those of you who’ve visited London, you know how congested and noisy the streets are. So, there are definite challenges. When a couple wanted to build a home in Westminster, they relied on the wife’s talent as a famed architect. Barbara Weiss and her husband overcame all the obstacles to provide the two with a one-of-a-kind house.

It’s upside down (sort of)
With their vision and Barbara’s creativity, they designed a house that’s upside down, per se. That means the upper levels include the living room, kitchen, dining area, and garden while downstairs is the bedrooms. Although you might think that sounds bizarre, once you see the interior, you’ll quickly change your mind.

Converted pub
The property they chose was built in 1927 and had served as a pub for many years. Barbara created individual spaces, included a magnificent open floor plan, and added a gorgeous rooftop garden. It’s unbelievably beautiful.

The primary living area
With plenty of windows, the main living space of the house receives a lot of natural light. And it’s large enough that the couple was able to fit a baby grand piano. Decorated in black, red, and white, the space is stunning.

Nice and open
By taking advantage of the ceiling height of the former pub, this architect was able to create wonderful views to the outside throughout the house. From the top of the landing, they can see directly down into the main area. Then off to the side is a beautiful view of the garden outside.

Outdoor living
A rooftop garden in Westminster is hard to find. But this couple considers it one of their favorite places. With plants all around and a table, they can enjoy coffee in the morning and read in the afternoon.

A massive library
As avid readers, this couple wanted a place for all their favorite books. So, Barbara created a library using vertical space. They now have books from floor to ceiling, which adds to the overall charm of the home.

It has a homey feel
The kitchen is quite large. Off of that is a large dining room with a table that can easily seat 10 people. For gatherings, whether family or friends, there’s space for everyone. And they can converse while someone’s cooking thanks to the partially divided wall.

Cozy and comfortable
All of the bedrooms situated downstairs are quite big. In fact, the master bedroom is so large that it comfortably fits a king-sized bed. With neutral colors and a pop of black, as seen throughout the house, it’s perfect.

Magnificent views
The one thing you’ll notice when looking at the video uploaded on social media is that this upside-down house has a ton of windows and skylights. So, no matter where the couple is, they have excellent lighting. Also, while this home has somewhat of a contemporary feel, it’s still warm and inviting.

Since this house is upside-down as described, the couple doesn’t deal with traffic noise and privacy issues that are common in this part of London. Check it out for yourself by watching the video below. It’s absolutely gorgeous.
