How To Clean Your Glass Top Stove With Dawn, Baking Soda, And Hydrogen Peroxide

April 16th, 2018

We all know how great a glass stovetop looks when its new, as well as how fast that can change after the first few times something gets burnt onto the surface.

No matter how much you clean, food still seems to get burnt on and dulls the glass as well as obscures those perfect burner circle markings. We have all been there!

One mom experienced that exact thing with her new stovetop, but she wasn’t going to put up with it, so she found the perfect solution.

She discovered that a combination of baking soda, peroxide, and Dawn dish soap along with the right amount of time resulted in a stovetop that was back to its original condition.

Step 1 -Begin with a dirty stovetop!

Note: If you have already been scrubbing and noticed that parts of the white lines that outline the burners seem to be going missing, don’t panic! They’re almost impossible to scrub off, but they do get covered by dark burnt on food very easily. Chances are that you haven’t actually harmed anything. Phew!

Step 2 – Add some Dawn dish soap to the surface!

Apply a good amount of Dawn dish soap to the surface. Make sure that it is enough to spread around. If you don’t have Dawn, you can try this with another standard brand.

Step 3 – Sprinkle baking soda over that!

Make sure that you cover all of the problem areas with your baking soda, and then move on to the magical step (the magic of science, that is):

Step 4 – Add peroxide!

Once you add your peroxide, you will notice the magic really begin to happen as the baking soda and peroxide react.

The science behind the magic:

When baking soda and peroxide react, they cause a harmless chemical reaction which can help to lift stubborn dirt that could take hours of scrubbing to remove without their help.

What about Dawn dish soap? It’s just incredibly good at helping you to wipe away all of the grime once it’s lifted off the surface. It’s kind of a favorite in the cleaning community.

Step 5 – Begin scrubbing the surface!

Make sure to really mix all of the ingredients together, especially the peroxide, and scrub that over every part of the stove surface. Go over every area a few times. It can be easy to miss a spot if you can’t see it beneath the thick mixture.

Step 6 – Set a timer!

Set a timer. Over at Happy Mama Tales, the finder of this perfect solution states that 3 minutes is the right amount of time. Whatever you do, don’t leave the mixture on long enough to completely dry, or it may become more difficult to wash off. The whole point of this is less time and scrubbing, not more!

Step 7 – Wipe your stove clean!

Enjoy a perfectly shiny and clean surface to cook on once again! Or maybe it’s time to order out and just admire that perfectly clean stovetop for one more day before putting boiling pots on it.
