Some stories just warm your heart, and this is definitely one of them. When a young boy realized one of his classmates was lacking a lunch, he started asking his mom to do something special that touched people all across the internet.

What an empathetic kid!

When this New Mexico mom found out why her son had been asking her to pack him an extra lunch, it both warmed and broke her heart all at once.

Josette Duran’s young son, Dylan Duran, began asking her to pack him an extra lunch. At first, she didn’t really think twice about saying yes. She just thought the growing boy was extra hungry, but there was a much more touching reason for the question.

Not thinking anything of it, she continued to pack his a second lunch until one day she got curious, and it completely blew her mind.

She finally asked her son why he needed two lunches, never expecting the answer she got.

Josette had been packing the extra lunch for months when she finally decided to ask her son if he was getting full off of the two lunches.

That’s when Dylan finally spilled the beans, and what he said brought joy and pain to her heart simultaneously.

“He said no mom, it’s for this little boy at school…And he sits alone, and all he eats is a fruit cup. Can you make him lunch too? I don’t think he has lunch money,” Duran told the local news.

Josette continued to pack the lunch for the child in need and took to Facebook Live in an emotional post.

The post has now been taken down, but in the video, the caring mother was overtaken by emotion. She knew how hard it could be to raise kids and felt deeply for the child and his mother.

She fought back tears in the Facebook Live stream, explaining that she wasn’t looking for recognition but just wanted people to know about the “intense” situation she was going through.

When the other child’s mother found out what she had been doing, she explained that times were tight – and it broke Josette’s heart to see another mother going through this. The mother had just found a new job and wanted to repay Josette, but there was no way she was going to take the single mother’s money.

When the volleyball team she coached raised money to reimburse Josette, she did something that showed where Dylan got his big heart.

It wasn’t just Dylan who had the huge giving heart, of course not, she was the one who raised him that way after all. So when the volleyball team tried to help Josette recoup her money by raising $400 for her, she did another amazing thing.

Josette took the $400 and marched right down to the cafeteria to pay off other kids’ past-due lunch bills

In the deleted Facebook Live, Josette teared up as she explained why she did what she did.

“We paid up all the past due accounts for all the kids that need lunch, so now no one in that school owes any lunch money to anybody and everyone can eat.” Said Josette, she went on to say: “This hits home to me because a few years ago me and my son were homeless, I was living in my car, I was washing him in bathrooms, and we didn’t have food.

With approximately 16 million kids struggling with food insecurity in America each year, Josette and Dylan should be an example for everyone who doesn’t struggle with the same problem to pay it forward.
