The current Covid-19 crisis has been a stressful time for a lot of people. Besides closures of your favorite businesses, limited access to travel, and other issues, it also left a cat stuck up in a tree before a bad storm. At least it would, if a big-hearted tree service wasn’t on hand.
Who will save Cheese
The video posted on Facebook opens with Jayson Maloney from Springfield asking for help with an animal emergency. Apparently, a large cat, named Cheese, had been stuck up in a tree dozens of feet above the ground.
You might be thinking that he could have waited for the fire department to arrive, but he says that because of Covid, the local fire department and police were not taking animal calls or after hours requests. With no other option, Jayson took to Facebook to find help for the cat before the storm could come and hurt him. As he says:
“It’s up to us”
Jayson was not alone in wanting to save Cheese. He recorded over an hour of footage showing neighbors young and old coming out to do their part. Ladders were tested. Bait was put out. Literal cat calls were attempted to coax the cat out of the tree. But it looked like nothing would work.
But Jayson never gave up hope. He kept the live feed rolling and made sure to delete any comments that weren’t helpful or positive. With a vicious storm coming in, time was of the essence to make sure Cheese made it out of the tree safe and sound.
But then, a hero arrived from the most unlikely source.
Real heroes don’t wear capes
Edgar, an employee of the Springfield, Missouri 4 Seasons Tree Service, arrived with the largest ladder of them all. He heard the call out and was more than happy to come help.
As children were kept away for their safety and neighbors watched, Edgar made the harrowing climb up dozens of feet upon a ladder. Jayson films the entire adventure as Edgar reaches up and recovers Cheese the cat and carries him back down to where it’s safe.
Everyone is in high spirits watching as a neighborhood woman holds Cheese and comforts the cat after its harrowing experience. But no one left the scene without congratulating and thanking Edgar for the fine rescue work.
Jayson left a large comment thanking Edgar and his company for their fast response to Cheese’s emergency. Just goes to show that even in the Covid-19 crisis, there’s still room for heroic stories.
All it takes is one simple step
But let’s not forget Jayson’s part in everything. Because there’s no telling if Edgar would have known to help if Jayson wasn’t willing to put out the word of a cat in need. Sometimes, all you need to do is reach out, to make great things happen.
As it turns out, Cheese came by a few days later to thank Jayson himself, as shown in this image.
What do you think about this daring rescue? Would your neighborhood come to an animal’s rescue like this?
