We’ve all heard those stories about a dog’s keen intuition that helped save a life or those stories of them knowing the times when we need someone to sit with us whether we are sick or sad and just need a friend. As time has gone on humans and dogs side by side together we’ve come to trust their intuition more and more. The number of dogs that are trained to tune into that intuition every day in order to become highly trained service dogs, rescue dogs, army or police force dogs, etc increases each year. These intuitive acts always seem to astound us and warm our hearts which is why we tend to regard them as man’s best friend. That acute ability whether used day to day for their jobs or just listened to when necessary lives in all dogs.
“While they may not be able to speak our language, dogs are empathetic, compassionate and fierce protectors who get the message across clearly without words.” – Suzanne Alicie
One day two boys by the names of Trevor Costelloe, a 21-year-old Youtube vlogger and traveler, and his friend Dave decided to take a spontaneous trip to an old abandoned water park near where they live in San Diego. Within just 30 minutes they come across two stray dogs who ask them for their help. After some hesitation, they decide to trust the dog’s intuition and experience a moment that they will take with them for the rest of their lives.
As the boys make their way through the abandoned park you can see the park and slides remain in decent condition. Trevor even discusses this in his video saying there isn’t much on why this park is abandoned but through research found it had shut down in the last decade or so.
When they first arrived the boys spotted a cop car at the top of a parking lot and mention they aren’t sure how far they’ll make it into the park before they get stopped. They choose to keep going without hesitation and for only a couple minutes they explore the park without any issues. This is until they realize they are not the only ones exploring the abandoned water park once they notice a big white husky in the distance. The husky stares back at them from afar but does not make an attempt to approach them. Then another dog appears this time a grey and white pitbull. On camera you can hear the boys exchange back and forth that they are nervous to get closer since these dogs are stray and they don’t know their behaviors.
But Dave decides to keep advancing slowly towards the pitbull who in return starts doing the same. This time the husky comes running over to them. The boys hesitate to make any sudden movements but both dogs greet them enthusiastically and gently with their tails wagging. At first, they think the pups wanted to come over to simply say hi but soon the pitbull leads them to the real reason they came over. The two stray dogs take the boys to a tiny pool where Trevor notices there’s a dog in it struggling to swim for its life. Once Trevor realizes you hear him say to his friend,
“Bro, we gotta save that dog!”
Trevor puts down the camera and walks over to the drowning dog. His friend Dave picks up the camera and at first, Trevor struggles to get a hold on the dog’s wet slippery paws and quickly tries to figure out just how he’ll be able to save this dog. He backs away for a moment in order to take his phone, wallet, and keys out of his pockets just in case he falls in too. He runs back over to the dog, who’s paddling has slowed down and is getting weaker by the second. Trevor stretches out his arm and grabs the dog’s paw to pull it closer to him so he can get a good grip. Once the dog is close enough he reaches down and pulls the dog up to safety where it is immediately greeted by its two friends.
The two stray pups who sought the boys out for help are so happy to have their friend back sniffing the dog up and down tails wagging. The boys laugh watching the dogs so happy to be reunited with their friend again. The husky and now free dog run away to continue exploring the park but the pitbull turns back to the boys and sits down. The pitbull looks back and almost seems to thank the boys trusting them and helping save their friend from a certain and unfortunate death.
Both the dogs and the boys leave each other with a memory that will last each of their lifetimes.
