Children are proof that humanity isn’t as bad as what we tend to come to believe if we watch enough news.
Young kids rarely hesitate, so they can be kind and compassionate without hesitation, especially towards those who need it most.
No wonder this little boy went viral after a photo of him comforting a distressed schoolmate on their first day of school was posted on Facebook.
First day jitters
The boy, whose name is Christian Moore, is an 8-year-old student at Minneha Core Knowledge Elementary in Wichita, Kansas. Wanting to document the first day of school, his mother Courtney took several pictures of him and shared them with her friends on the social media network.
They were mostly your classic first day of school photos.
One particular photo stood out among the rest.
It pictured Christian holding another boy’s hand as if to comfort the crying student. As Courtney recalled, her son saw the boy crying in a corner and went over to him to console him. Christian then took him by the hand and they walked together to start their first day of school.
As expected, Courtney felt extremely proud of her son and his admirable gesture.
Courtney wrote in a post:
“It is an honor to raise such a loving, compassionate child! He’s a kid with a Big heart, the first day of school started off right.”
She’s not the only one who is proud, though.
Even the Wichita Public School District has reportedly shared the touching first day of school story.
It expresses a level of compassion that is worth sharing with the world.
Thankful mom
After the post went viral and garnered over 27,000 shares, it caught the attention of another mother, April Crites.
As it turns out, April is the mom of the boy Christian consoled.
Commenting under Courtney’s post, April thanked Christian and revealed that her son struggles with autism.
according to KWCH, April wrote:
“I worry every day that he is going to get bullied for being different and your son just absolutely warmed my heart. If there were more children like him, I wouldn’t worry about such things.”
Touched by the mom’s message, Courtney also shared about Christian’s own struggles with speech and hoped that the shared moment could be the start of a friendship between the boys.
According to WebMD, autism is a type of developmental disorder which typically appears in a person’s early childhood. The condition may manifest in different ways in different children, but it usually includes difficulty with both nonverbal and verbal communication as well as social withdrawal.
Raised well
Since the photo was posted about two weeks ago, it has gained around 7,600 comments from people who can’t help but be touched by the school day story.
Most commenters commended Christian’s parents for raising such a thoughtful boy.
Meanwhile, a commenter, Tia Luposello Whitney, said that she appreciated the gesture as she has a granddaughter who also has autism.
Another commenter, Mike King, hoped that other children could see Christian as a good example and follow his kind ways.
As adults, we are often the ones that set examples for our children. However, in this case, it seems to be a child who is setting a positive example for all of us.
