Everyone knows that being a mom is a difficult job. Nothing will test your patience quite like an ungrateful kiddo that you thought that you taught better than to act like that. Sometimes tough love is the only way to learn. This mom took matters into her own hands when her daughter had a different reaction than expected to getting surprised with fun school supplies.
Haley Hassell recently posted to Facebook an episode that her and her daughter Presleigh went through for back to school. Hassell shared that she had gone to the trouble of stopping at three different stores to find a popular LOL Doll pencil case that she wanted to surprise Presleigh with. Thinking that she would be mom of the year and her daughter would be ecstatic at the reveal, she was speechless at the reaction that she got from her daughter.
“That’s stupid, everyone in my class has that… I don’t want it anymore!” Presleigh yelled as she threw it in the trash and stormed off, slamming the door to her bedroom to end the dramatic scene. Shocked, Hassell managed to keep her cool. She calmly walked out of the room, into the kitchen and got the pencil case that her daughter would be using for the school year.
What Hassell came back with, was a Ziplock bag with Presleigh’s name written on it in permanent marker.
Needless to say her daughter was not pleased with her new pencil case. This new bag was terrible and suddenly the LOL pencil case that was laying in the trash was good enough for her. On top of this new case, Hassell told her daughter to get the new pencil case out of the trash so they could give it to a student who would appreciate it, that maybe can’t afford fun school supplies like that, or any school supplies.
“I’m trying real hard not to lose it on this kid that I have worked so hard to completely take care of financially on my own and always make sure she gets what she needs and then some.” Hassell also said in her post. The comments were a mix of support for the actions that Hassell took and of course shaming, that the punishment was too harsh. Either way, this tantrum was relatable enough to a lot of moms out there, so much so that it went viral and brought a lot of attention to how kids are raised these days, reminding all of us that we should be grateful for what we have.
