Piglet is a deaf blind double dapple dachshund and Chihuahua mix who lives in Fairfield County, CT and is named for his pink coloring like Winnie the Poohโs friend Piglet.
Piglet was rescued from a hoarding situation. Since he was rejected by his mom, his rescuers had to supplement his feeding for weeks.
Two of his three litter mates were also affected with vision and hearing problems as a result of irresponsible breeding of two dapple patterned dogs.
โWhen I was contacted by the rescue director about a tiny blind and deaf puppy that wasnโt doing so well, I offered to foster until he was ready for adoption,โ writes Pigletโs adoptive mother Melissa Shapiro Newsflare.
When Melissa first arrived at the adoption event, Piglet was screaming all alone in his crate and couldnโt be consoled. So, Melissa wrapped him in a blanket and got him out of there.
Since Melissa was a vet herself, she knew to take him straight to the animal hospital.
โThere, I was greeted by our veterinary technician friend who took the 1.6 pound screaming puppy from me,โ she explains. โShe quickly stuffed him into her shirt which resulted in an immediate cessation of the screaming as he fell asleep.โ
But before he nodded off, he completely fell in the love with the vet technician. Poor Piglet was in desperate need of some love and affection and he was in the right place to get some.
Unfortunately, that didnโt last. As soon as Piglet was taken out of her shirt, he began to scream all the way home. Eventually, Piglet was able to settle into his new loving and healthy home.
โFrequent visits to the vet hospital have solidified the bond Piglet has with his vet tech โgirlfriend,'โ Melissa explains. โPiglet knows when we are at the vet hospital. When he gets to the door, his tail immediately starts into a wild wag, He marches in and begins his search for his BFF. Everyone watches the little deaf blind puppy as he uses his nose to locate his favorite friend.โ
When he finally finds his โgirlfriendโ she picks him up and he begins to wiggle and squirm all over the place to shower her with kisses. Then he looks for his โspecial spotโ and burrows right into her shirt.
