Ever heard of a snake caring for a rat? Well, you must admit that animals are the only branch of living things that has the tendency to stupendously catch us completely unaware of the surprising things they do.
Also, we are very much aware of the fact that animals scarcely deduce to the habit of caretaking and adoption, especially if the cared-for belongs to a far different species from theirs.
But the narrative which we will tell you today exclusively (and prettily) highlights this rear occurrence. A Beagle dog in Australia has just done something that is quite unique to its species, and for most animals, to say the least.
Molly, as she is lovingly called by her owners, has adopted an abandoned baby possum just days after she lost an entire litter of her puppies.
Quite fortunately for the baby possum and the mother dog, both have found a reason for comfort, love, and solace in this unorthodox animal pairing.
It so happened that one morning Molly was outside her home when she suddenly stumbled upon this abandoned baby possum. Upon seeing the dog, the innocent baby possum jumped right on the back of Molly.
The little creature held on tightly and since then the possum considered Molly his mother. For Molly, the baby possum comes as a gift from heaven to help her recover from the loss of her puppies.
“They’re an unlikely pair. I think that possum thought that Molly was her mother and vice versa,” says Elle, one of the two owners of Molly.
Since Molly has found the baby possum, she is been doing her job of a mother as serious as a mother can possibly be.
“No matter how improbable it may seem, these two were clearly destined to meet!” says Sara, the other keeper of the Beagle dog.
The cute baby possum was also to be suffered if he was not to be found by Molly. It is quite difficult for any infant animal to survive in the open at such a tender age without a mother’s care.
Victoria-based Sara and Elle describe their relationship as a very caring and intense one. Since possum sleeps during the day, Molly just keeps on waiting all day long under his resting tree until the kid possum wakes up.
As soon as he wakes up, the baby possum clings on to the back of his surrogate mother dog and Molly happily carries him as long as he wishes.
When at night Molly takes some nap, the baby possum rests in the lap of Molly and the two of them become a sight which only heals the beholder.
While the pet owners are not so sure about how long the baby possum will stay with Molly, but whatever time they have together, the owners wish that they get the most out of it.
While you may have heard or seen several incidents where animals do care for species other than theirs, such a distant caring example as this might not be a common occurrence.
