A stray cat has taken over the hearts of many on social media and has been dubbed “Baby Yoda Cat.” A veterinary assistant, Jana Aviles, posted pictures of one adorable stray that was brought into her animal hospital in North Carolina and Baby Yoda Cat officially went viral!
It is not only the coloring of the cat’s face but rather her dropped down ears that give her a Baby Yoda impression! An anonymous woman from Kannapolis had spotted Joy, Baby Yoda Cat, for a few days and was slowly trying to win her trust over by putting food outside for her in a makeshift shelter, at the advisement of the Humane Society of Rowan County, North Carolina (HSRC). She had the intention of bringing her to the HSRC once she could get her, but as Baby Yoda Cat started getting closer the woman realized she had a horrible open wound around her neck. HSRC will take care of all animals no matter the injury, so once a HSRC volunteer was able to get the cat they brought her straight to the Cabarrus Animal Hospital.
After Baby Yoda Cat went viral the HSRC posted on their Facebook page about the special cat, with a fundraiser available to support her animal hospital needs. The fundraiser had a goal of $700 but donations went well over into the $1200s. The world could not get enough of Baby Yoda Cat and wanted to make sure she was well taken care of. Baby Yoda Cat was shortly released by the animal hospital into the care of the cat’s supposed owner. The HSRC has posted about their doubts that this person was the real owner, but their hands were tied. They are putting the cat first through and are working with the woman to continue supporting Baby Yoda Cat’s medical needs through the money raised by the fundraiser.
“Animal Control has required that this surgery and treatment be provided by the lady to whom they gave Joy. With permission of the kind donors who have contributed to Joy’s bill, we will pay as much as possible toward those expenses,” HSRC informed the public.
Thousands of strangers had stepped up with the request to adopt Baby Yoda Cat. Many people offered to drive hundreds of miles to be able to come and adopt her. Some potential adopters were from differing countries and were willing to travel for Baby Yoda Cat! The veterinary assistant, Jana Aviles, that first shared about Baby Yoda Cat posted an update on her Facebook for all the people that could not adopt Baby Yoda Cat.
“There are 70 MILLION stray cats just in the US. 4 MILLION cats are brought into animal control facilities each year, and 1.4 MILLION of those cats are euthanized each year due to lack of homes. Everyone please check your local shelters. I guarantee you that your new best friend is waiting for you as I type this. Yoda cat may look cool, but looks aren’t everything.”
