We guess you could say this whale was human-watching.

Just last week, something happened that whale watchers normally only ever dream of. It’s a once in a lifetime kind of thing, and this whale watcher actually had the chance to experience it. Lucky for us, it was all caught on video.

Uploaded via Good News Network, the video shows a baby whale approaching a whale watcher on his boat. The baby whale obviously saw the person and was super curious, so he swam over. The person treated the whale with kindness as he gently got to pet the whale.

Now how often does that happen?

The baby whale appeared to love the person and his boat, as he stayed there for a good few seconds. He loved being pet too and totally let him do it. It almost looks surreal — to see this wild baby grey swimming in the water while being pet.

It’s so pure and adorable!

Sofia Isaac — from Guadalajara, Mexico — is the person who recorded the video, sharing that the cute whale came up to say hello. When the passenger reached out to give it a pet, the whale seemed to really love the attention. The whale stayed there for a little bit as it bonded with the human.

The moment took place at a whale breeding ground in Ojo de Liebre, Baja, California.

“The video shows a baby grey whale being curious. You are able to touch them, here,” Sofia told Good News Network. “The mother whale was behind the baby at all times protecting him.”

What made it even better was that the wild baby grey’s mama was right there behind him. She let him go up to the people while she watched from afar, which means she probably trusted them. The two whales proved to be super friendly and welcoming.

“This is my meaning of happiness and enjoying the present,” Sofia continued.

We couldn’t agree more with Sofia. If running into a whale and their family and actually getting to hang out with them for a few minutes isn’t pure happiness then honestly, we are not sure what is.

There are several different whale species you can run (or swim) into when watching, according to Whale Facts. Some of the most popular ones you can see are blue whale, humpback whale, bowhead whale, gray whale, fin whale and minke whale, among others.

When whale watching, people are usually looking out for dolphins as well.

The good thing about whale watching is that is has been bringing awareness to the endangered whale species. Many whale watching businesses actually donate part of their income to help fund whale conservation’s and awareness programs.

The goal is to recover these marine mammals and improve laws to protect them. By doing this, the hope is to prevent complete extinction.

And wouldn’t you want to make sure these mammals never go extinct after seeing this super sweet clip?!

We’re glad that whale watchers are still able to spread awareness even during these uncertain times.
