It’s always a delight for cat lovers to learn about new breeds, especially those who don’t look like your typical, sassy feline.
Generally, one would assume most cats look the same, differing only in fur color and pattern. With the exception of breeds like Sphynx, Lykoi, Minskin, British Longhair, etc., cats generally share the same physical attributes: pink, button noses, large eyes, fuzzy paws, and long whiskers.
But some breeds really stand out and remind us all of just how amazing and interesting cats are.
Take the Munchkin cat, for example. Its name alone is an obvious hint to how adorable it looks.
The Munchkin cat, sometimes called the Sausage cat, has very short legs caused by a genetic mutation.
Small to medium in size, this breed comes in all coat colors and patterns and even has a long-haired variety called the Munchkin Longhair.
It was first introduced to the public in 1991 in a cat show held by The International Cat Association. Critics even made predictions on possible physical complications such as back, hip, and leg problems likened to those of Dachshunds. Because of the Munchkin cat’s appearance, the breed wasn’t accepted in competitions. Despite being recognized as one of the cutest cat breeds to ever exist, there is still continuing debate on whether the genetic mutations hold potential disadvantages to the cat or not.
Still considered a young breed, there is still much to be determined in terms of how physical characteristics altered by genetic mutation impacts a cat’s health. (Source: Wikipedia)
But that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate how cute they are!
Just look at those eyes. That nose. And paws. That face! It looks like it’s just begging to be picked up and cuddled and just loved.
One look at this kitty is enough to melt your heart.
Thanks to social media, we can watch this ball of fluff do typical cute, cat things, like lie on the floor looking all cute and confused.
Or sniff curiously and bat adorably at a colorful toy mouse.
Cats, being naturally curious about their surroundings, love exploring. And that’s always a treat to watch, especially when they’re as charming as this Munchkin kitty who doesn’t care how small it is or how it looks – I mean. it’s as good as all the other cats and not any less capable despite its short legs and eyes that scream innocence. At least that’s what we assume it thinks.
It’s easy to get carried away by its cuteness, really.
This cat is melting hearts all over with its sad eyes and short legs.
Cat lover or not, you won’t be able to resist gushing about how it goes about doing ordinary cat things.
So even if cat experts all over argue about whether the Munchkin cat’s distinct physical features correlate with its overall health, we can still fully appreciate how unique and precious is – just like all cat breeds.
If you need to be reminded that happiness isn’t at all hard to come by, watch this video and you’ll see why.
