Young Ruby Lewis is fully capable of holding her own on the wrestling mat, but her little 2-year-old brother had to make sure. She was competing in an elementary school wrestling match in Columbia City, Indiana against 5-year-old Ryan.
Ruby had just brought Ryan down to the mat, but someone in the crowd seemed to think that Ruby was in distress.
It was her 2-year-old brother Jash. Though it wasn’t meant to be a tag team match, Jash came running and screaming out of nowhere and attacked his sister’s opponent thinking that she was in distress.
The referee tries to separate the two until the Jash’s dad comes over and scoops him up. The entire room was roaring with laughter.
“That was the best thing I’ve ever seen,” says someone in the background of a video that captured the entire attack. “That was awesome.”
“That little boy is upset,” said another individual.
Ryan’s dad caught the entire thing on video.
“I was working and missed the match, but when I got home he showed me the video and I knew we had to share it,” Ryan’s mom, Tori Allen Prendergast, told HuffPost.
She ended up posting the video on Facebook where it went viral and now has more than 228,000 views. News outlets all over the work picked up the story. It was even published in an Armenian news outlet.
“When the girl you’re wrestling has a tough little brother, don’t mess with his sister ….you won’t regret watching this video, promise,” the video’s caption reads.
The internet was absolutely charmed by this little boy who was trying to protect his sister.
“It was so cute,” Prendergast said. “The whole place was cracking up when it happened. I only have boys, but if I had a daughter, I hope they would protect their sister like that.”
And many people on the internet agreed too and applauded the little boy for taking the initiative to make sure his sister was safe.
Jash and Ruby’s mom, Crystal, says the children’s father introduced them to wrestling.
“Some people’s kids are jealous of the next sibling down, and neither one of mine have ever been that way, they’re always like that’s my sister, that’s my brother. They were never really jealous of the baby. They were more protective,” Crystal told WNDU.
